Would anyone care to issue a correction to the following statement from Charles Blow's NYT op-ed?

The president and fellow Democrats have taken a page from the Republican playbook. They’re unabashedly using racial-solidarity politics to animate voters.

Background: a leafy orchard and a white-painted corral, with several horses gamboling in the morning sun. Candidate, in rust barn jacket, jeans and cowboy boots, ambles towards the camera.

Candidate:

"Washington is out of control. President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are spending us into bankruptcy. Their policies burden every American child with $42,000 in debt the day they're born.

And they don't listen. The American people told them: hands off our health care; no more trillions in bailouts. You told them America needs good jobs, not crazy big-government schemes.

We've got one last chance to turn this around. It's that important."

Candidate breaks into broad smile and kneels as his two impossibly-tow-headed granddaughters rush into his arms.

Candidate:

"I'm Joe Bloggs.

And I'm white."

Yeah, yeah, yeah... substitute "their own playbook" for "the Republican playbook".

But why bother correcting? Mr Blow is not going to listen. He's too in love with being a blowhard.

Republican playbook?! This is classic Democrat-speak, and projection.

When anorexics look in the mirror, they think they're fat. Their thought processes are distorted. www.autisable.com/704745839/anorexia-linked-to-autistic-thinking/

Delusional cognitive disconnect. A template for madness.

Charles is clearly being disingenuous. That said, Obama's welcome to the Republican playbook.

Which page? I can't find it in my copy of the playbook.

It's the super-secret Karl Rove/Ed Gillespie edition. See if Peter Robinson (the whitest guy I ever met) will loan you his copy.

If only Charles would join Ricochet. He could save himself future embarrassment by reading David Limbaugh's post on liberal projection.

Which race has reliable solidarity with Republicans?...None.

Which race has reliable solidarity with Democrats?...Blow's.

When haven't the Democrats used racial-solidarity politics to animate voters? That and class warfare are the only tactics they know!

Blow's intention is to inject a lie into the public consciousnsess like a virus. Blow is relying on his soul-mates to repeat this lie over and over and over until people come to believe it. Liberals have been using this trick since Wilson, who, btw, owes his "legacy" to it.

If Blow is going to try to manipulate public opinion with lies, he ought at least make some attempt to be original in technique.

Oh, and I must point out that it's like being called ugly by a pig!

Sometimes, when blacks start talking approvingly, and in detail, about American history, the Constitution, and limited government, they get accused (by other blacks) of being "too white." Unfortunately, for a lot of people, "black" has become mostly an ideological classification. So maybe, for those same people, "white" has become just an ideology too, and race has become a proxy for one's political ideology. In their view of the world, interchangeable definitions.

Who was Robert Byrd? Clarence Thomas for President? And on a slightly different note, more (conservative) women in politics? Seems to me like the Democrat's playbook is full of rancid hypocrisy.

I have to be honest.

It is not that they say stuff like this all the time that amazes me.

It is that they manage to say it with a striaght face.

Deranged is the only possible explanation, that's the only answer (other than mendacity) for the behavior of many liberal pols and pundits.

Not to mention insulting. To suggest that a certain demographic must vote a certain way is a different variant of the John Kerry "stupid voter" theme.

Amazing how this attitude permeates that side of the aisle.

Everyone here is reading every word, probably more than the general public, How many of them are just getting something like : " the president is unabashedly using racial identity politics" or do they see the words "republican playbook" ? More importantly , do they perceive the tactic or the thought to be the bad thing ? As another comment implied , depending on where you stand , democrats don't see moral errors , just tactical ones . Republicans are acting thinskinned when they're accused of anything. There are so many weak spots we have to shore as we fight, and when we win .

True. We should probably just be happy that Blow is acknowledging the Dems' dirty politics and leave it at that.

And all this talk of projection might be false, too. Maybe Blow is just bitter at the world, Democrat and Republican, because he's doomed to go through life with the last name of "Blow."

Haven't you ever noticed, whatever the Democrats accuse the Republicans of doing is the very thing that they are most guilty of doing themselves? I first noticed it after Hilary's infamous "vast right wing conspiracy" comment. So, if you want to know what the Dems are up to, just find out what they are accusing the Republicans of doing. Works every time.

Since Republicans basically never mention race, Democrats usually have the minimal wit to accuse them of speaking in code words, like "tax cuts", "war on terror" or "border enforcement", which they assure us rilly rilly mean "race". For this guy to label Republicans' use of race as "unabashed" is just so much splenetic frothing at the mouth.
