Conservatives tend to think of themselves as big supporters of the military. They also tend to support a hawkish foreign policy.

If that is the case, how is it that Ron Paul leads all other Republican primary candidates and Barack Obama in military donations? This was also the case during the 2008 primary.

Ron Paul is a non-interventionist who has been critical of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

Are conservatives out of step with those serving in the military or the military out of step with American interests? What do you guys think?

More on this from The New AmericanPolitifact, and Digital Journal.

(The image comes from a weekly military newspaper published at Joint Base Lewis McChord in Wash.. The front page story, "You Want Him," is about how Ron Paul leads all other candidates in military donations.)

I think Ricochet should have a recurring (weekly or at least bi-weekly) feature something along the lines of "This Week at War" with Dave Carter, Casey & all the Ricochet vets & servicemembers, Duane, John Yoo... you get the picture.

Maybe have four or five folks start threads on a rotating basis.

This election isn't going to focus on foreign policy. But that doesn't mean it's irrelevant. Also, Ricochet has an experienced brain trust ready for exploitation.

I hasten to add that my experience is not dignified by Casey's admirable life- I was never in the Service.

I spent 19 years in the world of aerospace and defense, working for rhe Army as a civilian, then for the world's largest munitions firm, including several years as a Washington representative.  I was involved in all aspects, from helping to write requirements documents (assisting the active duty military staffers), to lobbying Congress on appropriations, to guiding tours through factories.  The highest rank I ever sat in a small meeting with was the Undersecretary of the Army.

But I never went through boot camp.  My heroes are guys like Casey.

Damn, Duane. That's one hell of a resume! You have a wealth of knowledge and experience from which to draw that humbles me. Thank you for your praise, and know that I, in turn, respect you immensely. Thank you.
