The Maze to Serfdom
Thanks to Senator Brownback and Representative Brady, we finally have a clear organization chart for our new healthcare system of the future.
Meanwhile, this nugget from Bloomberg Businessweek:
The health care reform law, which is designed to cover millions of uninsured people, will squeeze the profitability of the largest commercial health insurers over the long term, making them unattractive investments, according to Edward Jones analyst Aaron Vaughn.
Of course, as insurer profits are squeezed and capital dries up, companies intent on survival will need to cut services and restructure operations in all sorts of customer displeasing ways. Another round of demonization will follow, led by the President and his allies, followed by bankruptcy. And then, and then we emerge at long last into the sunlit uplands of single-payer government-run healthcare, which was the destination our betters had in mind from the start.

George, thanks for making this a Ricochet topic. I look forward to hearing what everyone here has to say. My husband shared this with me a couple of days ago. I'd encourage everyone to download the pdf file and examine it closely. I nearly fell off my chair. Imagine what the flow chart for financial reform will look like!

Re: The Maze to Serfdom
It's pretty terrible to look at this chart and realize the graphic Boehner's office was touting before the bill passed pales in comparison. We know that not all congressional Democrats want single-payer: I wonder what percentage regret their votes on Obamacare?
Between the intended leftist consequences written into this bill & "Wall Street Reform" and the unintended consequences that anyone with a shred of common sense has warned about, Reid and Pelosi's handiwork cannot be repealed fast enough...

As the central government grows and grows and grows, the socialism is automatic. It makes little difference what you call it.
Re: The Maze to Serfdom
PJS, you are absolutely right that the PDF rewards careful consideration. My conclusion is that Obamacare is designed to fail forward -- it cannot work and isn't intended to. All that matters is that failure is blamed on the "free market" -- as with the housing bubble fueled by the Community Reinvestment Act, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
