The same team that brought you the awesome discussion of Hayek and Keynes in the form of the "Fear The Boom And Bust" video a few years ago is back. Above is "Fight of the Century: Keynes vs. Hayek Round Two."
It is an awesome rebuke of the economic philosophies guiding the Obama administration and many in Congress. You can read the lyrics here.

Re: The Latest In Hayekian Hip-Hop
These videos are great for general consumption and will hopefully enlighten some people on economic matters. I'm sharing this post on Facebook. I don't usually like Hip-Hop but it's a really good video.

It's an effective device, isn't it?
It's funny. A couple days ago, Brian Watt served up a similar video to explain the God particle. That video had the same usefulness.
Human beings have only a limited temporary memory, to use a computer analogy. We compensate for limited memory by depending on the equivalent of "thumbnails." We assemble complex ideas into short packages that we can actually work with. Huge, complex arguments get compressed into handy images or narratives.
Historically, songs and poetry were the most effective media to pass along ideas, because most people had no access to preserved information such as books or libraries. Poetry has mnemonic principles that preserve information. People don't remember lectures, but they remember lyrics.
I just find it culturally ironic that we used to depend on poetry to communicate ideas when there was no mass media. But now that we have a flood of media, and are bombarded by noise ... we return to the usefulness of poetry and lyrics. Lyrics can cut through the complexity.

I love the way the ref declared Keynes the winner after Hayek knocked him down. Actually, I love the whole thing.

These Econstories.tv raps should be the template for anyone thinking about doing anything regarding conservative ideology in entertainment. Put the volume on "mute" and these videos are still entertaining and funny. The fake mustaches, the back up singers, the locations and props, etc. It is all quality. It's a rap video that just happens to be about free market economics, instead of free market economic thought that just happens to be a rap video. For example: This video compared to, say, a rap song quoting directly word for word from the Road to Serfdom . . . Do I need to say more?
If we conservatives hope to make in-roads in providing ideological entertainment, the entertainment still has to come first. The movie, music, book, music video, etc. has to be able to stand on its own no matter the content. We should not get so caught up in the ideology that we forget the audience has to be entertained. Plus, doing it this way will keep it from becoming a little too preachy. I love chocolate but I don't want it topped with chocolate syrup, chocolate chips, and bathed in chocolate milk. You know what I mean?

If you are entertained by this at all or you just want something more in-depth and educational, please check out Russ Roberts' podcasts at Econtalk.org. Russ is the economist behind the Econstories videos.

I have a confession. When this lyric was uttered:
"The economy's not a car, there's no engine to stall, no expert can fix it, there's no 'it' at all. The economy's us, we don't need a mechanic, put away the wrenches, the economy's organic."
I cheered loudly.

Russell Roberts is always doing interesting things. Note the security guard is none other than Mike Munger.

Gov, you are so right. If we had just 10% of the conservative talent that goes into the business world going into entertainment, it would be a huge boon for the movement.
The key is authenticity. Fox News' "Daily Show" counterpoint, "The 1/2 Hour News Hour", was awful because it was trying too hard to be the mirror image of TDS. When they did something fairly original -- "Red Eye" -- they hit gold.

Re: The Latest In Hayekian Hip-Hop
From "Fear the Boom and Bust", spoken by "Hayek":
"So I'm sorry there buddy if that sounds like invective; prepared to get schooled in my Austrian perspective."
Greatest. Line. Ever.
And let me ask again, as i have in threads past: Rob, hire an economist to contribute to Ricochet.
Re: The Latest In Hayekian Hip-Hop
That's great, really tops!

Re: The Latest In Hayekian Hip-Hop
After the first video, I had children walking around for more than a week singing, "It's a boom and bust cycle and good reason to fear it, blame low interest rates, naw, it's the animal spirits." This one is a bit less catchy, but still pretty entertaining.

And I swooned.
I'm supposed to be studying for a nasty exam right now, cloistered away from all electronic distractions -- but I just had to be naughty and visit Ricochet to see if anyone had posted on this video... Oh, I am in love.
Made hubby watch it -- these videos make him almost like hip-hop. Never thought that would be possible.
I tell ya, watching this video late at night with your spouse, it's a romantic experience...
