The Jay Carney Answer

Jay Carney labels a journalists legitimate query, a "Donald Trump question". Carney starts with a smear about the question, followed by an assertion with very careful word-choices, plenty of umms and ahhs, followed by a dismissal. There you have it, the Jay Carney Answer!

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
The basic Jay Carney story has been told many times over the years, in many different ways:
Always a sad ending.

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
The frustration I feel at Carney's arrogance is surpassed only by the press pool's lack of anything resembling a challenge. This reporter had a good point to make, but asked it in wiffle ball fashion ("Jay, is there anything the president can do to be more transparent?"). Then when Carney ridicules the question, the reporter still does not offer 3 or 4 specific examples on the subject, nor does he point out that the question had zero to do with birth certificates, but was about college transcripts, a legitimate question that no reporter has been able to get answered after 4+ years in the hot seat. Obama and his buddies never fail to tell us how brilliant he is, yet this simplest of evidence is nowhere to be found. Why is that? Was he a middling student? If so, how did he get into Harvard? Did he have help? Affirmative Action? This is a legit story that no one bothers to report on. And Carney knows this, and treats them all like the lapdogs they are.

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
Could you imagine what it would be like if Jay Carney had Tony Snow's character? Even if Tony had to work for Obama (hypothetically of course), he wouldn't have come across nearly as smarmy. I can imagine how an adult might deflect those tough questions:
For crying out loud Jay. Act like an adult.

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
Call me a monster but I would like to see President Romney rub B.O.'s nose in a few things. It would be an exhilarating gust of fresh air to seen a speaker for Romney display clarity and a lack of avarice towards the opposition. I think of something like "Yes, Nancy Pelosi said that about President Romney's suggestion but she is terribly mistaken, and it's not her fault. She must agree to the idea in order to learn what's in it."
Or : "President Romney's bill has been sent to the Democratic Senate. However Harry Reid expressed disappointment that it was 2600 pages short of the proper length."
Or : "Demonstrators have claimed that following President Romney's suggestions would cause the end of the world. Personally, I'd like to take them up on that. I'd bet each one 10$ that the world will not end. I'll accept cash only."
MR would have a hole to climb out of the first 3 years, just like Reagan, and having a non-Carney-Gibbs would help him.
Maybe the press would even become Republican.

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
Those who pay attention have known for years that Obama's personal records are sealed. I would like to see Carney asked specific questions every day until Obama's health and education records are unsealed. Why stop with Carney? The questions should be published more often so people who have been paying less attention see that Obama and his team are not straight shooters. The political air should be pressurized until answers come. It's only fair!

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
The press secretary's job must be life-shortening in its effects.
What's interesting is that the question is about transparency, which is apparently a one-way street in the administration - we're transparent about stuffing pouring out the WH, like opened floodgates, if you get the meaning here, but as far as any requests to peek into the God Emperor of Dune's personal Cave of Secrets, well, ha ha - are you Donald Trump? Ha ha! Next question?
He probably gets one of those Little League medals at every staff meeting, and everyone tells him he's doing a great job. I'll bet Carney thinks he's just ACES at this stuff!

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
It became such an important issue to questioners that we actually had to produce a birth certificate. Imagine that!

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
The issue of what gets revealed and what does not is really about privacy. The long form birth certificate should be a given in tiday's global world. America is such a unique and distinctive society, voters do need to know where someone grew up and formed their values because as we are seeing in Europe, the Greek approach to government differs from the German. Pushing for complete transparency is going to make it difficult to get good candidates. Besides, so much can be fixed up or scrubbed clean. Jay Carney does a good job in doublespeak. He knows how to throw out the red meat but it is good to hear journalists doing their job and not just thinking they need to get invited back.

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
The complete failure of this administration to engage with the press - or even with the truth - should embolden a future republican administration.
I'd like to see a complete repub boycott of the NYT, WashPo, Boston Globe, CNN, etc. etc. You can throw Fox in there, too.
President Romney's outreach to the public should be via slick videos released to YouTube, a monthly Uncommon Knowledge chat with Peter Robinson, and random comments on the Ricochet Member Feed. The esteemed White House Press Corps can be subjected to mock briefings from Iowahawk and a rotating set of conservative stand-up comedians.
Seriously, if you treat the press as being unimportant, it is unimportant. And good riddance.

Re: The Jay Carney Answer
Obama is probably playing with us once more. Withholding the birth certificate until he could make millions of critics look like fools when he finally released it was an obvious ploy. Same thing is being done with the college transcripts. If a politically connected special value student such as himself couldn't wrangle A's at Harvard and Columbia, schools pretty well known for their steep curve systems for special folks like Obama, I would be surprised. He's just waiting for the exact moment before the election to post his great college achievements on the White House website. I would be careful about pushing this too far. An Ace of Spades up his shirt is written all over this story.

Clandesteyn, don't you understand, when Carney lies, it's for the children. The end justifies the means for these folks. Their consciences have been seared.
As for his spiritual condition (in his "heart"), one would have to be a bit numb. There's a reason that socialism and alcoholism are the most compatible of isms. Alcohol provides spiritual amnesia.

An earlier post about Carney and TIME magazine his former employer. This should shed some light on why the WHPC is deferential to Carney - he's connected with the big-wigs at one of the largest media conglomerates in the world.

Ah, well that certainly puts things in perspective, doesn't it? And, while I hate defending the guy, can you imagine if you had to defend the Obama Admin. every day of your life? I couldn't do it.

Such low-hanging fruit as this must already have been picked. You left out a word: 'check,' as in "Yes, the President is an open book, but it's a blank check book."

Well put. I find myself reminding people that criticizing relativists for being inconsistent isn't particularly productive. Far from being ashamed, they're more often a little proud of themselves for being so clever that they can overcome the constraints of facts and reality with their rhetoric.
I just hope Carney is occasionally hit with a glimpse of himself as he really is.
