Thanks to all who participated in Ricochet's first weekend contest!  Owing to its success and the interest it generated, we will certainly hold more in the future.

Congratulations to our two winners, Leslie Watkins and Tabula Rasa who tied for first place with their thoughtful posts about historical figures who revealed much about the possibility of overcoming the totalitarian temptation.  Both winners will be receiving copies of The Great Lie, courtesy of Prof. Flagg Taylor.

Honorable mention goes to EJHill for his fantastic design of a brochure for the Museum of Totalitarianism.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out all of the great submissions:

Yes, I enjoyed that too. Never thought I'd enjoy homework, but things change when you get to my age - especially when you get to read reflections from some truly interesting thinkers. Well done.

Thanks.  In my case credit goes to my subject, Vasily Grossman.  While he is not quite the giant that Solzhenitsyn or Sakharov are, he is a significant figure in the fight against totalitarianism and anti-Semitism.  No book in years has influenced me more than his Life and Fate.  Read it.  I guarantee you'll be blown away.

I too would like to see more homework like this.  It's the first (and likely the last) time I've ever won anything.

Congrats to TR and Leslie and their excellent entries!  I will get your books in the mail to you tomorrow.  And to EJ, I actually do have a little honorable mention gift for you.  Good to know the brochure is already done for the Museum of Totalitarianism--opening in 2017.

Same here, tabula rasa. Your passion for your subject is very cool.

Congratulations to everyone: Leslie and Tabula (when is the cage match to settle this once and for all?) and EJ. One post script: I got about 100 words into the project when duty called this weekend. Rather than scribble something together quickly, I figured I would just sit on it (quiet Ralph Malph) until I had an opportunity to finish it. I realize that late entrants don't qualify for anything but I assume its still considered okay to post thoughts on this subject on the Member Feed without incurring the wrath of Poseidon?
