The federal agency had just launched a media campaign to publicize their efforts at finding the legendary Boston crime boss. The Los Angeles Times says he's been caught.

In Santa Monica, of all places. It's not quite Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, but it's still pretty intriguing. It figures that California would be the best place to hide illegally.

Man oh man, Howie Carr is having a good couple of weeks.  The jailing of the MA House Speaker, the (announced) resignation of Weiner, and now they round up Whitey Bulger just as he's doing his book tour for Hitman.  He may just as well retire to Palm Beach for good now.

Whitey Bulgur back in the 80's being rousted and rounded up by the Staties while his hands were over his head, turned and looked at the State Police and the camera and said, "You know what the difference is between me and you guys? You're the good guys and I'm the good bad guy."

When he was young, the story in Southie was he'd rob a bank in the morning, take the money and pass it out to people in the neighborhood.  In the afternoon, he'd go knock off a bank for himself.

Anyone interested in a great fictionalized version of the Whitey Bulger saga should search the used bookstores for a copy of "At End of Day," by George V. Higgins.

Remember this maxim: Always hide in plain sight.

I recall 60 Minutes doing a story about him almost 20 years ago. He was a larger than life figure who scammed the feds mercilessly.

I'll be listening to Howie on the Internet today to see how he works brother and former President of the Mass. Senate  Billy Bulger into the story.  I'm sure Howie will once again be plumping to have Billy join recently convicted Senate President Sal DiMasi and former Speaker of the Mass. House Thomas "Felon" Finneran as alumni of the Federal prison system.

Yes.  Of course, you can't go wrong reading anything by George V. Higgins. He was the best.

Note to Pakistan: Yes it took us a long time to catch him, but when we did he was caught in the people's republic of Santa Monica, not in a private fortress in Annapolis.
