Tom Meltzer at the Guardian has made a short animated video confirming what you're no doubt suspecting about the euro bailout:
The pauses speak volumes. (Hat tip: PG.)

The beauty in all this is that it could be the first time in history that Chicken Little is right. Short the Euro!

Bankrupting less irresponsible countries to temporarily prop up mordantly irresponsible countries is a fool's game.

It seems that we have been watching this all in slow motion for 50 years or so.
Will there actually be a paroxysm someday?
I don't think so -- I think we will just keep slowly devolving for the next few decades and something new will come along. In this I think Mark Steyn's analysis of the end days is wrong in that it will not be a series of violent events but a slow whimpering sigh.
I have a sister who lives in Stockholm and she denies or doesn't even know what has happened in Sweden over the decades she has lived there. Each problem in Sweden and Europe has an explanation and my concern for the standard of living in Sweden is just overblown nonsense. She lives in the upper 5th of the economy there and so she doesn't need to worry during her lifetime. Her children on the other hand....
As I have said elsewhere on Ricochet: These people just make sure they keep themselves on the top of the corpse as it sinks to the floor. The speed of collapse is carefully controlled to prevent any major event to cause any upset.

So when Hollywood makes a movie of this fiasco, who will play Merkel (and Sarkozy)? I'd laugh at the absurdity of the situation if it weren't for the fact this nation is on the same slow path to fiscal Armageddon.

What the European Community needs is a Community Organizer. Which, upon reflection, is what Hitler was. Good thing European anti semitism isn't on the rise or I'd be worried about...
Never mind.
