Here’s a Christmas gift idea for your liberal friends: a Mayan calendar. According to some, the Mayans predicted the world will end in December of 2012. And, although many liberals are fond of mocking  Christians who talk about the Rapture, they seem to love predicting the end is near for countless other reasons unless, of course, those same liberals come to the rescue. Nancy Pelosi has done that at least twice in recent years. Just the other day she warned about the consequences of a Republican budget: “We're trying to save life on this planet as we know it today." In 2008, when she opposed Republican offshore drilling proposals, Pelosi announced, “I’m trying to save the planet.”

TodayThe New York Times’ resident shrieker, Paul Krugman, in his usual nuanced analysis, summed up the Washington budget deal this way: “What we are witnessing here is a catastrophe on multiple levels.”

Last year, California Senator Barbara Boxer invited her state’s students to enter a “Help Save the Earth” contest.  I didn’t check the winning entries, but I’m guessing the government played the primary role in the rescue.

Disaster has been on the horizon for decades. In 1975, Newsweek famously ran a story on the catastrophic impact of global cooling, warning of the disruption of food production and fretting that scientists  “see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.”  Of course, we are now warming ourselves into oblivion.

I actually don’t think the Left is dealing in scare tactics with these pronouncements; I believe they mean what they say. And they may be right. Their world may end on November 6, 2012.

I hope that means that they'll all sacrifice themselves in a giant volcano or something and then we can go on living without them.

Recall some prediction about folks clawing at themselves, trearing out their hair and the knashing of teeth... Bring popcorn..... They have just been warming up lately...

Pat, if you'll pardon the intrusion for a shameless plug, Ricochet Member Casey Taylor explained Pelosi's behavior for all to hear on my little podcast, which came out today.  I think Casey is onto something....

And with any luck, you'll be right about their world falling on their pointed little heads in 2012. From your keyboard to the Electoral College.

Liberals love all humanity--it's individual people they can't stand.

I'm with Adam Freedman- it is excellent news to get such a quote from this source!

Couldn't help but notice the language of the Democrats' commentary: the words save, folding and surrender were used 7 times. And these are the bon mots of the "progressive" party?

The end of the world - Nov 6, 2012. How awesome will it be to watch the reporting of this unfolding catastrophe on MSNBC?  The look on the faces of these people as returns come in and the map turns redder and redder should be akin to a funeral.  I'm going to cook some wings, pop open some Yuenglings and laugh my you-know-what off.
