...to one type of cellphone charger. And they're prepared to creep you the heck out to do it. They've put out one of the most frightening and honest advertisements I've ever seen. It really is worth watching in full quality. Twice.

I've always known the lefties in Brussels wanted us to all feed from the public trough -- who knew it would be sterling silver?

Strange. That's the same method the National Health Service in the UK uses with surgical tools.

Yowww!! This is gross and obnoxious. They have contempt for the rich here it is pretty plain to see. I can understand why a universal cell phone charger would be desirable - at least in the short term. Long term it would promote monopoly and discourage innovation.

But I don't understand advertisements these days. I noticed some of the same elements in the Super Bowl commercials. The visuals run contrary to the message. Is there something I'm missing, a new psychological study that validates this approach?

The visuals say a lot about modern Euro-socialists. They hate the rich and want them to all beg from the state - and eat from the same dirty spoon. I get it.

Well that was gross.  Although I like the idea of a universal charging standard, I'm not sure I like the idea of associating it with well-dressed people eating Pragu while testing out their immune system.  All I could think of during this was, "I hope whoever put this together falls flat on his face."  But I really like the idea of a standard charger.  USB is getting us there.

And was there something special about the blonde?  I noticed the music tempo sped up when she took her taste.

I'm speechless.

Exactly!  The advertisement spends 1 minute 20 seconds demonstrating why conformity is a bad, disgusting thing, and then 4 seconds concluding that we should all conform.  It makes NO sense.

No doubt you agree there should be a tremendously high obstacle between "I really like" and "the law should mandate".

One of the standard Lefty rants is that we have too many choices in the marketplace. Central planning writ large.

It is amazingly honest. Reminds me of the the 1010 video.

Well... that just postponed lunch.

Hay, EU, how's that "one solution" worked for yer government?

Brilliant! it would be an absolutely perfect ad for opponents of ObamaCare to use in demonstrating why Obama's one-size-fits-all solution for your health is creepy, disgusting, and wrong.

You should close with a cat licking the soup ladle and a dog drinking out of the toilet bowl.

It totally reminds me of Terry Gilliam's Brazil.

With the need to download to a computer, the USB is the logical choice.  We were getting there without a government mandate.

I worked in industrial engines for years.  There are SAE standards for bell housings and flywheels.  All the industrial engine manufacturers use them because they would lose business if a customer had to custom engineer a connection between an engine and a piece of equipment.

These standards were not the result of government mandates.  It just made sense to create them.  The government needs to stay out and let the market find the best solution.

To paraphrase Kathryn Lopez (talking about something unrelated): How could they possibly think that that would have helped?

There actually has been a certain amount of standardization lately.  The same USB chargers has worked on my last three cell phones from different companies (Motorola and Sony-Ericsson).  No government required.

Keep your laws off my cell phone!

The spoon fed approach was creepy but allied in the overall theme.

The government provides the best choices, Enjoy !!!

E - U, indeed. From the website:

"Incompatibility of chargers for mobile phones is a major environmental problem and an inconvenience for users across the European Union."

God forbid there should be an inconvenience. The example given on the site: your phone runs out, but you don't have a charger, and you ask to use a co-workers, but it doesn't fit your phone. Naturellement, a case for state intervention. Next year: Ensuring pop songs do not have a competitive advantage because they're catchy and short. Six notes, maximum.

Not just cell phones either. I often use the USB charger from my cell-phone to charge my video camera, or my handheld gaming device (kinda like a game boy, but Linux-based), etc.

Government not required.
