The Devil Does London (or Paris)
BREAKING: We can now confirm that all new State Department personnel decisions are being made on the basis of an eight-year-old copy of Entertainment Weekly. Last week it was Andrew W.K.; Now this, from Bloomberg:
President Barack Obama is considering nominating Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, as his next ambassador to either the U.K. or France as he looks to reward his biggest fundraisers with embassies never out of fashion, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Question: what do you do with a woman so notoriously insufferable, abusive, and vain that both a best-selling book and a hit movie have been derived from her utter priggishness? Answer: Obviously you give her a senior diplomatic post in an allied nation.

She'll probably throw great parties!
On our dimes.
And we won't be invited.

The French deserve her.

My thoughts exactly. She'll fit right in.
Re: The Devil Does London (or Paris)
I think that Anna Wintour should be our new ambassador . . . to Syria. The gushing profile she published of Asma Al-Assad earned her the post.

Re: The Devil Does London (or Paris)
Shoot... comment #3 beat me to the punch! The French care only for style, the flawless accent while speaking their native tongue, and a 'sophisticated' attitude toward adultery. See some previous bios of ambassadors to France who enjoyed great success at their posts:
1) Pamela Harriman. Not terribly chic, but she spoke the language beautifully and was, shall we say, a world-class courtesan.
2) Evangeline Bruce. Wife of the ambassador, but truly a partner in the running of the embassy in the early fifties. Chic, extremely talented linguistically, but again, a bit of a player.
C'est la vie. No use wasting serious American talent in Paris.
Addendum: The French ambassadorship has always been an expensive PR job at best-- particularly now-- after the election of Hollande.

Just thinking the same thing -- she throws money at Obama's campaign she has earned leading the fashion industry and is rewarded with a leadership position for our country? Our country is not a fashion magazine nor is it an industry. This is a fashion No-No!

Whichever embassy she goes to, I'm sure it will be well-secured. Maybe if Chris Stevens had bundled some contributions in '08.....

Re: The Devil Does London (or Paris)
She is the perfect choice: she will argue not that terrorism is morally wrong, but rather that its going out of fashion.
Meeelan, dawling, meelan.

Re: The Devil Does London (or Paris)
Nor does she have to! As I mentioned previously, this job is even less relevant than an ambassadorial post to the UN. ( John Bolton was far too talented to waste in Tudor City.)

Non, non, non... Churchill represented the union of the English speaking peoples and this slight was far more insidious.

Maybe they can send DSK to the airport to "pick her up" .

Re: The Devil Does London (or Paris)
And then again, why not? Beast giving her $500MM to start a company like some of those other bundlers. One thing for sure is that the "Obama bundling protfolio" pays more than any other "investments" out there.

Re: The Devil Does London (or Paris)
I know it's typical in politics to throw your big fundraisers a bone, but good God...
They really are that absurd. The older I get the more I see them for what they really are. Politics is about being a part of the in-crowd to them. A bunch of adolescent nonsense.
