The Department of Bucking Up

Two indices:
According to Intrade, the likelihood that Republicans will capture control of the House of Representatives this November is now 59 percent.
And over at Real Clear Politics, the GOP now leads the Democratic Party in the generic congressional vote by six percent, a virtually unprecedented margin.
Proud of me, Claire?

That's another reason that politicians should want full employment. If Americans are working full-time, they don't have time to sit around and think about how government is wasting their money.

Yes, yes. Well done.

Can I cast a shadow on the proceedings? Be the skunk at the garden party?
I wonder if we really think that the Republicans, once (and if) they get control of congress, will have the sheer courage to do what it takes to turn this country around. Sure, tax cuts. But what about fundamental scaling back? Reforming our bloated and sprawling federal sector? I'm not so sure.

Re: The Department of Bucking Up
Rob, you have a point. Haven't we been down this road before? The best we can hope is that should they recapture control of the House (dare we hope, the Senate, too?) that they learned their lesson from the prior stint in majority. They cannot be content to simply be in office and legislate as Big Government Conservatives. The time has come to roll back the gross overreach and encroachment of the federal government into every aspect of life from what should be the purview of the states to the decisions of the individual. Let's be the party of liberty and free people to make their own decisions about their lives.

Soon enough, Republicans (courageous or not) will do it, for the same reason Europeans--yes, Europeans--are doing it: Math.
