Naughty Public Policy

Free birth control? Even morning after pills? Is this a pay off for political loyalties or just a way to protect children from growing up obese in America? First Things' Bio-Ethics blog has a good take on this moral and political abomination.

Well, if it comes with nurses like that…

Tim Carney had a great post yesterday, "Democrats put politics ahead of policy -- again," on similar lines that also talks about how Obama's main demand on the debt ceiling was that it be extended past the election.

What's that Joe? Something about Obamacare?

Yeah, it's really, really bad.

I can't seem to focus right now, though.

I'd support Obamacare if it mandated that all hospitals be staffed with nurses resembling the one above.

This is his solution to the demographic disaster built into Entitlement America. He's not quite clear on the details of how it will all come together, but Reid and Pelosi have done absolutely top notch work here, absolutely top notch. Something about a new quota of five million Muslim immigrants a year. Working out swell in Europe, can't let them hog all the good ideas.

I am sure that pic violates a CoC...

As for Obamacare, was anyone expecting anything different?

There's nothing wrong with gov't providing free artificial contraceptives to the poor. It's currently a big issue  here in the Philippines.

There's a lot wrong with it, John. Why is government doing it? What's the goal?

Not really.  Unless that's a latex dress, of course.

I'm with Ed G.  There is no free anything from government.

Unless the government plans to force the drug companies to produce the contraceptives without compensation (ie. at gun point), and also the chemical companies that make the raw materials that go into the drugs, etc, etc back to the farmer producing the corn starch (or whatever) used as a binder, I can't see how this is "free."  Someone is paying for the drugs and now we have yet another unfunded mandate built into health insurance plans.

So, just like my current health insurance premium covers drug and alcohol rehab I neither need nor desire, chiropractic treatment I neither need nor desire (and, for that matter, do not consider "health" care), next year it will cover contraception I neither need nor desire, and the rates will increase to cover it.

We need FEWER mandates in insurance and the ability to choose and pay only for the coverage we need.  It is well known that the various state mandates are one of the driving forces in cost escalation.  That's why buying across state lines is so desirable.

As PJ O'Rourke said, "....just wait till it's free."

As I said on a different thread...

[This] means, of course, taxpayers now subsidize performance enhancing drugs like Viagra, pregnancy prevention drugs and devices and, if you manage to "succeed" in your performance or "fail" in your pregnancy prevention, abortions for those pesky unwanted consequences.

Our new national motto:  US taxpayers, we've got ya' covered!

See?  Now we understand the Left's position that the Constitution is wholly inadequate to modern times.  These are not "rights" the founders could possibly have foreseen.

Will mandates peter out?

The bigger the staff the more it costs, and the harder it is to downsize, so pills will replace the professionals, except for VIP care.

But rationing will eventually cause shrinkage of members, even with flexible coverage, which begs a tit for tat about how much inflation is needed going forward.

So don’t expect a candy striper devil sandwich with your healthcare.

She's a waitress at the Heart Attack Grill, right?

At least you didn't choose to use the nurse in the album cover photo from Blink 182's Enema of the State.  She's scary.

Do people still wonder why health insurance costs so much? Insurance companies are not allowed to offer cheaper policies because they are forced to provide coverage for things you don't need or want.

So, if your convent is looking to get a group policy for the sisters, you're going to have to pay for birth control coverage even though the nuns probably won't get much use out of that benefit.

I'm willing to pay for it, especially if the country is very poor and overpopulated/has a high population growth rate.

John Marzan:

Then, by all means, feel free to donate to the population control group of your choice.  The problem is forcing the rest of us to do so at gunpoint, aka, government mandate.

Oh brother. Overpopulation? By what standard? And I say that we should tread carefully when we contemplate tasking government with population control.
