The Cartoonist Responds

The artist who did the "Republican Memorial" cartoon has responded to my piece - and in his tweet, said he was “refudiating” me. Zing! It’s here. You want to argue with it, have at it in the comments; I’m busy tonight.
I can probably guess that I'm a nut who doesn't understand satire, and the basic ideas underneath the hyperbole will be painstakingly justified.

Re: The Cartoonist Responds
I find it ironic that in his defense, Bolling remarks about how "New Yorkers are the ones who have to live next to Ground Zero, and who live with the lion's share of the terrorist threat."
He may live with it, but it's the Track Palins of the ignorant white West who sign up to fight against it.

Re: The Cartoonist Responds
I'll take a shot. His response was reasonably well argued; the guy isn't stupid. That said, he clearly lacks the gumption to endorse the GMZ. Nope, he won't stand up and say, for instance, "Sarah Palin is an idiot for opposing the GMZ, it's a good thing and here's why." Instead he relies on tendentious mockery of an obvious target. Why?
Because it's easy, just like it's easy for a ten-year-old to garner laughs by placing his hand in his armpit and pressing downward.

Let the fisking begin again! Maybe we could find a way to make this automatic and recursive.
Although I'm coming closer to Conor Friedersdorf's position on the issue--I suppose I can believe they are not trying to provoke us--I hope this turns out better than it seems. My response to the Cordoba House (or whatever they're calling it now) is visceral, but that doesn't necessarily make it inappropriate.
Could it be that the Cordoba initiative just has bad manners? Perhaps they didn't anticipate this becoming a national issue. Ground Zero is in Manhattan, but who didn't feel pain that day? Did they not realize this?
[trek analogy]I feel like Kirk responding to the Gorkon initiative. I guess the next step is to stop the cabal of Arch-Conservative Logicians and Islamist Terrorists from blowing it up in an effort to destabilize the peace talks.[/trek analogy]

Re: The Cartoonist Responds
Thank you Ruben. The next time I'm looking for some reflexive leftist hostility and condescension (to me) in graphic art form, I have a new place to look. Good job. Oh, and what's the preoccupation with race about? I don't get it.

Re: The Cartoonist Responds
By the way. What is a cartoonist doing explaining his cartoon in a blog? What kind of crappy cartoon calls for an explanation? Good grief. Why can't it just be funny? It shouldn't be too hard to make fun of us. We have opinions.

Re: The Cartoonist Responds
RubenBolling tweeted this gem yesterday: "When it comes to Constitutional rights, the 'will of the people' doesn't matter. The Const. PROTECTS us from the 'tyranny of the majority.'"
Let me guess: this guy heard someone mention "tyranny of the majority" and has somehow construed said utterance to be the central purpose of the Constitution, even going so far as to eliminate the will of the people as any concern whatsoever. I guess he missed those pesky little sections on elections, legislative representation, the amendment process, etc.

Re: The Cartoonist Responds
I wonder where Mr. Ruben Bolling stands on the movement to do away with the Electoral College, a movement which of course, has absolutely nothing to do with (ahem), the "will of the people."
The average Leftist doesn't want the Constitution; they want the Constitution a la carte. And if that's not on the menu, they'll make it up.
