It's Friday,..which is almost always a good time for a diversion.  And this time, the diversion is the approaching collision between the nation's top two college football teams.  Naturally, they are from the SEC.  And happily, my Tigers are included.  Alabama and LSU are about as evenly matched as can possibly be, and have absolutely obliterated every other opponent they've faced this season.  It's not often that Number 1 and Number 2 play in regular season.  This will be a wonderful, hard hitting slug fest at 8PM Eastern.  Ready to rock n' roll?

Good thing too,..since there aren't any dogs in the fight anyway.

Win, lose, or draw, Mike, it's going to be a good one.  Hope it's injury free too.

Last 1 vs 2 that I recall was OSU/ Michigan in 2007 (or so). Bucks won in a thriller and then went on to the title game to.....lose to the SEC (Florida). Drat.

Must admit you southern boys can ball.

That's what makes this one so exciting, to me at least.  It's a tough conference.  Probably the toughest in the country,...and the teams two teams that sit atop that conference are going at it.  I like heavyweight fights.

Dave, our LSU-bred "Y" director here has "Geaux Tigers" signs posted all over the place.  But, "Roll Tide".

I share your hope that it is injury free.  And also that it is free of penalties and contested official rulings.

It ought to be a good game, teeth-rattling but clean.  The afternoon ought to be beautiful.  Will you be able to halt and watch?

I hope I can watch it.  Depends on how many miles I can get under my belt and the quality of the truck stop.  If not, there are computer feeds that provide regular updates.

Roll Tide!

One of my sisters is hosting a party, which she has playfully dubbed, "A House Divided." Her blood is crimson. Her boyfriend's is yellow... err, gold, I mean. It will be one family versus the other.

You've got us beat on Special Teams. Our defense can hold against anyone. I just hope our offense shows up to play. The talent's there, but too often Saban has to slap them around at halftime.

Any guesses on the number of turnovers? Both these defenses are fearsome.

Now that Laura's Vols are not involved..."Geaux Tigers!"

And since this is Ricochet,...this from college football.com.

"...[T]he name Louisiana Tigers evolved from a volunteer company nicknamed the Tiger Rifles, which was organized in New Orleans. This company became a part of a battalion commanded by Major Chatham Roberdeau Wheat and was the only company of that battalion to wear the colorful Zouave uniform. In time, Wheat's entire battalion was called the Tigers.
That nickname in time was applied to all of the Louisiana troops of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. The tiger symbol came from the famous Washington Artillery of New Orleans. A militia unit that traces its history back to the 1830s, the Washington Artillery had a logo that featured a snarling tiger's head. These two units first gained fame at the Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1861. Major David French Boyd, first president of LSU after the war, had fought with the Louisiana troops in Virginia and knew the reputation of both the Tiger Rifles and Washington Artillery.
Thus when LSU football teams entered the gridiron battlefields in their fourth year of intercollegiate competition, they tagged themselves as the 'Tigers'."

Geaux Tigers!

Seriously, the state of Alabama is beside itself with anticipation. I had to get out of there and head back home before tomorrow's game. I plan to be rooting for the Tigers in a major way.

Moi aussi, cause we Wolverines support our own. (Y'all know I'm referring to Leslie Edwin Miles).

This is the Ali-Frazier fight of football.  The toughest teams in the toughest conference head-to-head.  We will be watching the BCS championship game played early.  Doesn't matter who plays on January 9th...this is THE game.

Dave, good luck to your Tigers.  Hope you get to see it.

Sadly, our Vols won't be "involved" for another couple of seasons.

This is gonna be a good one. LSU has one of the most talented and violent (not dirty, not cheap, but just flat-out scary) defenses I've seen in years. Bama is no slouch. My call: if LSU scores a touchdown in the first quarter they win by 10 or more. PS - My Wake Forest Demon Deacons host Notre Dame. Check it out during the commercial breaks.
