The Best Way to Keep Warm Tomorrow Night in NYC
The rain getting you down? Need a lift after a hard week defending Free Enterprise from its detractors? Want to see some friendly, sympathetic faces? Then listen up!
After work on Friday, some of us are going to meet at the bar at the Hyatt near Grand Central Station (109 E. 42nd St.). Tommy De Seno, Emily Esfahani Smith, Adam Freedman, Ursula Hennessey, Bill McGurn, and Red & Black Redneck have indicated that they'll be there, and we'd like to see as many of our members and readers there as possible.
Once again:
Date: Friday, October 15
Time: 6:30 to 8:00 (roughly)
Place: The Commodore Lounge, the bar at the Hyatt at Grand Central (109 E. 42nd St.)
See you there!

Let's hope this doesn't degenerate into a squalid brawl, the way the soiree in San Francisco did.
I'm still haunted by poor Diane Ellis' plaintive sobs as George and Peter rolled on the floor in a mutual death-grip:
"Guys! Stop! Yale men don't act like this!"

Kenneth, it all has become clear: You joined Ricochet so you could impress Rob and Denise with your screenwriting abilities in hopes that they might take you under their wing and get you connected in Hollywood. What a dirty ploy.

If this were anywhere, say, in Colorado, I'd be buying the shots.
Darnit.

Does that mean I joined Bob McKee's Storylogue in vain?

Diane, don't start with me. It was your little flirtation with Trace that triggered the whole thing....taking just a little too long smoothing that self-stick name tag onto his lapel.
All the other guys went hormonal, head-butting and gouging. The only thing lacking was hooves and antlers.
Look, I hold no grudge. Doctors were able to re-attach my ear and the puncture wound from Claire's stiletto heel was above my hairline, so it's hardly noticeable.
But don't you dare impugn my motives. I joined because I heard there was gonna be free food and drinks.

When do the Twin Cities get one of these? We've got to be approaching critical mass!

Sorry, we're boycotting Minnesota. Two words:

Re: The Best Way to Keep Warm Tomorrow Night in NYC
Minnesota Ricochet members can participate in the event. Here's why, and how. The Grand Hyatt was originally constructed as the Commodore Hotel in 1919; the old bones are under the glass, somewhere. The Commodore was connected to Grand Central station by a revolving door, which was removed years ago . . . and reinstalled in the Lumber Exchange on Hennepin in downtown Minneapolis.
So walk through that door tomorrow, and imagine you're entering the Hyatt. See? It's just like being there.

James, doesn't this sound like Mark Helprin's Winter's Tale?

I get belligerent when I get buzzed, so be warned.

Re: The Best Way to Keep Warm Tomorrow Night in NYC
I did notice that unlike the SF event where time and location were in the special members only zone, this event is posted right out there in the open for all the hoi polloi to see. Why it might even get onto the WNYC events calendar. If clean cut men in white shirts, navy suits and dark glasses show up and start asking a lot of questions about how well you know Kenneth, you might want to have planned your escape route in advance.

Looking forward to it. See y'all this evening. By the way Adam, shots tend to have the effect of making me un-gentlemanly.

Oh Kenneth, with events in San Fran and NYC, we can't start boycotting places with offensive politicians! Speaking of which, maybe Chuck Schumer will show up tonight!

I'll be there. My wife is coming as well. NYC, a drink and some smart people sounds pretty good to me.

Don't forget about your loving neighbors to the North. Hopefully a Canadian cocktail party isn't out of the question for the future...

Well that was really fun! What a nice bunch of people. I took a few pictures and will get a link up tomorrow. Ursula has the Sharpies and the name tags.

Agreed. What a pleasant group of folks. We really enjoyed it and putting voices to names and faces. Need to reconvene at Highland Tap in Atlanta next.
