The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture

Watch this video. It's pure genius. You might have trouble deciphering the accent. It's known as Black Country, which is the part of the Midlands my mother's side of the family comes from. Anyway, while accent may not be so easily comprehensible, the sentiment certainly will.
You have entitlement culture on your side of the pond, we have it on ours. Two heads of the same Hydra.
The guy who made the film by the way is called David Tristram. I expect, given his politics, he's not likely to be invited to Hollywood any time soon.

Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
I think I understand how difficult it must be for a typical Londoner to understand someone from, say, the Ozarks. Hard to believe she speaks English.
James - I hate to admit my linguistic shortcomings, but can you provide a synopsis?

Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
Where is a good translater when you need one? The best I could get is that the woman has a genetic defect that interferes with her ability to speak English comprehensively, so she is being sent to Barbados, all inclusive. Did I get close?

Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
I can't understand, at all, what the doctor said she had.
"It's confirmed ... iz a lies ee keh ..."
That's the best I can decipher.
Oh, wait, I listened to it a few more times.
"It's confirmed. I'm a lazy cow."

Hilarious.
"So they tell me 'Oh, I'll work again.' But I tell you, 'look, I've tried.' I mean, I've tried retail work, I tried that part-time, bit of shoplifting, but...if I'm going to do full time, I'll need a proper overcoat. And I've said 'who's going to pay for that?' And like, you know, like you've got two interviews and you can tell how they look at you...you know, let's be honest, it's prejudiced. I mean, as soon as I tell them I don't want the job, they ain't interested. So then I went to the doctor's because I was fed up. And so, he took one look at me and says 'right, I'll try to upgrade you to bi-polar.' And I said 'what about that other syndrome? Hamburgers? Because that looks really great on your CV'"

Thanx Diane - that helps. Or at least it helps me to understand what James wanted us to catch from this.
"I mean, as soon as I tell them I don't want the job, they ain't interested." Priceless.

Some days she gets tired just taking the check out of the envelope? Oh the humanity!!

James, Pure genius!
It captures the entitlement sentiment perfectly. My hope is that it will inspire an american version so it can run in opposition to " Halftime in America" at next years Super Bowl.

M, I got "lazy girl". Maybe?
Very good James. Thanks for the name of the film maker, I'm going to look for more :)
Carreau had this on the member feed a few days ago.

Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
I also found it hard to make out. Did she say she's got four children from five different fathers?
Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
Yes, and I think one of them were twins,..and her sister's father, on her grandmother's side, twice removed, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

I decided not to think too hard about it. They've been brilliant, though.

The beauty of this, for an American audience, is that the accent involved significantly delays the moment when you realize you're not watching an actual documentary (I'll admit it, I was about halfway through before it clicked for me). Just brilliant.
Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
Thanks Diane. Neat translation.

Describing the earrings as "tacky" is an unacceptable, culturally imperialist value statement.

Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
My 19 year old watched with me and had the filmmaker and actress googled before we were halfway through. Personally, she reminded me of so many of my relatives on the other side of the pond I halfway expected him to tell me she's a cousin.

Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
What's frightening are the comments from the British left on this thing: "here's wishing a slow lingering death on the braying Tory ******* responsible for this" is being re-tweeted over and over again by Brit leftists.
Re: The Authentic Voice of Entitlement Culture
It took me a little while too. But I started pretty early on to wonder why James would post some sob story and call it brilliant.
