Rick Perry. Candidate. A man barely alive.

Gentleman, we can rebuild him.

We have the technology.

We have the capability to make the world's first bionic candidate.

Rick Perry will be that candidate.

Better than he was before.

Better.

Stronger.

Debate-ier.

I was reminded of Mike Murphy's assertion that a re-ascendant Perry is Romney's worst nightmare. It occurred to me how much this scenario would have to coincide with the opening scene of The Six Million Dollar Man.

Having crashed and burned, a rejiggered, bionic Perry, a Perry able to stay out of his own way on camera, able to raise money, able to win the Tea Party, Evangelicals and Iowa, that Perry would be muy no bueno for Mitt. And the fact that Mitt bears a striking resemblance to every 70's TV villain ever is for many here no coincidence.

Perry is the one Romney wants to stay in front of in Iowa. Newt's ascendancy to the Not-Romney throne bodes well for Mitt, ill for Rick.

Effectively, Newt is Oddjob to Mitt's Goldfinger, gotta go through one to get to the other.

The longer and stronger the Newt boom booms, the tougher it will be for Perry to go bionic and slay the evil squish, right?

So, will the Newt boom last?

Can Perry go bionic?

He has some of the money left and the fancy super-smart support team to rebuild him. They certainly served him well after that elusive scapegoat, the Department of Energy, made it's sneaky, embarrassing run from his chopping block.

Any thoughts?

I watched his sit down with Bret Baier and Co., and although he is improved in such situations, the poll tested platitudes and sticking to the script are starting to show. I liked him more when he said things off the cuff and got conversations started.

But, I guess that doesn't answer the question. The reality is, as much as I wish it were otherwise, he's gotten himself in a puddle no set of mudders will get him out of. My hope now is that his ideas will influence policy going forward. I'm actually liking the idea of him as a VP to someone else. His charm and personal touch (not to mention the swagger) might be very effective behinds the scene to push policy proposals forward.

Authentic trumps poll tested to be sure. Unfortunately for Perry, letting him go free-range yielded too much Dopey and Sleepy and not enough Doc.

I think Murphy is right about Iowa, if Perry trails Romney in Iowa, then he is most likely done. He will certainly have a tough row to hoe in South Carolina.

Even though he's saying all the right things and people like his proposals, he is getting no traction. I'd love to see a grand clash of ideas, but it looks like we're stuck with a personality contest again. Meh.

Rick Perry is Steve Austin, same accent, same swagger. It is uncanny.

Check him out taking on Bigfoot, it is good for a laugh.

Yes, a resurgent Perry resembles the $6-Million Man in every particular, including that both are science fiction.

Perry's done.  Even if he could get the nomination (I don't think he can), there's no way this country is ready to elect as President another Texas governor with a, uh, not-so-erudite way of expressing himself.*  That's the bottom line -- ideas, policies, even personalities, are beside the point.

He does have that Lincoln in the old Disney Hall of Presidents vibe about him, no doubt.

Did he really help himself here?

I think he's pretty much beyond help at this point. Time to redeem himself was between debates 3 and 5, and he clearly did not do that. He shot himself in the foot, and the best he can hope for now is to limp until he bleeds (his money) out.

Perry managed to stay aloft tonight, he did not crash and burn at least.

Boots on the ground, drones in the sky, smarter than a fence, but it just sounds more like the Empire than Han Solo, more like the Alliance than Mal Reynolds.

Not to completely rabbit trail this topic, but possibly my favorite Mal Reynolds line of all time is when he tells Jayne, "Well my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle." I can't count the number of times that line has run through my head during certain discussions here.

Back on topic: Perry has to soar, not just stay aloft. He's gotta pull a Chuck Yeager, not an Orville Wright.

There is only one question you have to ask yourself: Do you want a managerial progressive with no stomach for confrontation to be commander in chief or do you want the C-130 pilot with a zeal for making DC inconsequential?

Can't contend with the sentiment; can't bet my house on the outcome though. In a perfect world Perry would not stumble over his words and would be at 80% in the polls. Sadly, this is not a perfect world.

Agreed, and Newt killed tonight, if he can dodge the immigration bullet then Perry will have a hard go.

I hold that a bionic Perry is still next, ahead of Santorum and Huntsman.

And Huntsman had a couple of good moments too.

All that about America's hunger for brains, kinda weird.

And my favorite Mal Reynolds line is "I aim to misbehave".

Well, your drones are quite handy, just out of phase with America's heroic mythology is all.

Please don't go all lightning-hands on me:)
