Thank You Ricochet

I want to say "Thank You" to the staff and members of this site. I appreciate everyone that works hard to make this site run, and all the great members that post. Ricochet long ago became my home page, replacing The Corner as the political site I check early and often (like voting Democrat).
This is a great place, and I am proud to have joined back when it started.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
Yes, thank you! When I tell people I'm addicted to the internet, I really mean Ricochet. You've done a very good thing here. To quote an old Steve Martin movie, "I'd rather be with you people than the finest people in the world!" There isn't a better internet community anywhere.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I'm grateful too, and very admiring. What a unique and amazing thing you've all come up with! This site has given me a whole bunch of unexpected new friends, plus an outlet to feed my raging appetite for serious, substantive conversation. I'm sure my husband is glad for the help, even if he's sometimes concerned at how much time I spend here rather than working on our own projects. :)
Here's something else: In my normal living, I come across mostly only people who are practically strangers to me, so that conversation never proceeds beyond the superficial, or close friends who completely share my religious and political views. Ricochet has given me a chance I otherwise almost never have to dialogue sincerely and vigorously with people with very different ideas. I'm learning a lot through it.
Thank you!
PS I know outlets don't feed, but I can't think how else to express the point.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
It's nice to see you wingnuts taking a break from your wars on women, children, and the elderly, to pat each other on the back. Also, I second what Western Chauvinist said.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
Ricochet is the major exception to Groucho Marx's famous line: "I don't want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member." In fact, I like this club because, even with all our varied experiences and backgrounds, there are some fundamental things that make us alike: we like freedom and moral responsibility; we like markets and distrust bureaucracy; we want government to be very good and even smaller.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I'd like to second Ethan's suggestion of trial memberships with Trial members so designated. Also, perhaps we could have more invitations. I used mine on three people who I thought would love Ricochet, but none of them have become active members; perhaps the next time around I'd have better luck. Edit: Oops, I just found that I have new invitations! I must have missed that announcement.

As both an editor and an addict, I thank you and I agree with you! I love this place.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I’ll add my voice to the chorus of appreciation here. I’ve lurked for quite a while but haven’t posted yet. I initially found Ricochet after following a strand here from somewhere within the web of Lileks’ digital media empire. Thoroughly enjoy the podcasts and the wide range of intelligent, insightful, and courteous discussion. Ricochet has given me a slew of new intelligent imaginary friends (imaginary perhaps until meeting them in person at a Meet Up) to check in with every day. Thank you!

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I'd like to add a "me, too!"
I go to Ricochet several times a day. I'm one of those people who feel a little too intimidated to comment much. It takes awhile for me to say in print what's going on in my head - in my head it all makes perfect sense but doesn't always come out that way on the page. I enjoy the podcasts immensely. I'm a stay-at-home mom and get a kick out of the fact that I can listen to Richard Epstein and John Yoo while I'm mopping the floor and cleaning the bathrooms. I practically feel I'm on a first name basis with Peter, Rob and James. ("Oh there's Peter, pounding the desk while he's making his point again!") I love getting the British perspective from James Delingpole and his guests. I could go on and on.
Thank you for being such an intellectual and informative - and enjoyable -place.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I have to thank Mollie personally, because she wades onto the member feed to post more, I think, than any other Editor.
And of course you all have already figured out that I am an addict. They say the addict is the last person to know she has a problem...

I love this place when I can get here. I hate it when I can't.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
The above comments pretty well sum it up for me. There's nothing like it on the Internet which, given this site's content, is high praise indeed. Thanks to all who make this possible including of course, those who comment whose depth of knowledge make this a true education and a pleasure to read every day. Problem, though. I spend far too much time here when I can, and feel like an addict on withdrawal when I can't.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
This made me laugh, Kim K., because I feel the same way on every point (except I save my favorite podcasts for walking the dog rather than floor mopping). I always smile when I hear Peter driving his point home on his poor desk.
Though I generally don't like to associate with people who "out-clever" me, I can't help but have a soft spot for y'all. Thanks Ricochet!

Re: Thank You Ricochet
Nothing I can add really, but to just say (sorry about this) ditto! I do want to echo the point about civil conversation, so rare on the net. Also, there is always someone making me smile! A great bunch of right thinking people, even Rob. It's down right refreshing!
