Thank You Ricochet

I want to say "Thank You" to the staff and members of this site. I appreciate everyone that works hard to make this site run, and all the great members that post. Ricochet long ago became my home page, replacing The Corner as the political site I check early and often (like voting Democrat).
This is a great place, and I am proud to have joined back when it started.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I was just thinking I needed to write a post telling Ricochet how much I treasure the site, the contributors, the editors, the members (including Casey), the blue Yeti, EJ Hill's photoshops (the one of Lileks the other day was the topper), and the podcasts. That's the good news; the bad news is that I spend way too much time on Ricochet. But as vices go, Ricochet is benign.
Brian beat me to it, but I second the motion.

I specifically included him because of his recent forays into poetry, which to some may automatically disqualify him from either credibility or friendship. I just wanted him to know I don't hold it against him to the point of shunning him.

I second this.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
First post on this site for me.... I enjoy the podcast immensely, and just joined Ricochet about 5 min ago. Can't wait to check out the extra stuff, and maybe post once in a while!

Welcome David!

Re: Thank You Ricochet
For me Ricochet has been a genuine oasis in an otherwise very dry world. For this I am quite thankful. Bryan's absolutely right: three cheers to the contributors and staff for making our time together challenging, inspiring, and oftentimes fun.
And, yes, welcome David!

Re: Thank You Ricochet
Thanks for the kind words, TB. But the thought of a naked James Lileks being my high-point is enough to make one pause and reconsider one's direction in life...

Re: Thank You Ricochet
Agreed! Having one place on the web where every post doesn't devolve into a morass of hatred and vitriol is like an oasis. The hard work is not unnoticed and is appreciated.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I totally agree. Once I read the Corner; now I read Ricochet. Thanks so much to everyone who makes it work: Founders, Editors, Contributors, and Members.
Re: Thank You Ricochet
I agree with everyone else. Just hope it grows enough (aka enough people join) so it can continue. Every time Rob goes into his schtick about people joining, I feel nervous!
Re: Thank You Ricochet
Bryan, thank you so much for the positive feedback. Ricochet is a labor of love. Leslie sums it up above: We aim to be an oasis for genuine, heartfelt conversation, not an echo chamber or a fever swamp. I'm glad we are succeeding.
Ethan, we do need more members. Anything our existing members can do to spread the word via Facebook, Twitter, carrier pigeon . . . whatever, is greatly appreciated. To go "viral" our existing members need to "infect" people likely to make good additions to our growing community. Once your friends start lurking and anxiously awaiting the next podcast, encourage them to join up. And if you have additional thoughts on how we can spread the word more effectively, please let us know.
I like to think that Ricochet is the community-oriented complement to the many many important conservative web sites on the Internet.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I just have to echo everyone else who has expressed their appreciation of Ricochet. It is the first place on the web I visit when I have free time (and even when I don't).
Thanks to everyone who keeps this place running!
Re: Thank You Ricochet
I think the best way to get members is to have a trial period- either a week or two weeks. I'm shocked this hasn't already been put in place. The biggest negative I can see is that people could just download all of the podcasts for free- I'm sure this can be fixed somehow (maybe just make the latest of each available?).
Trial members will have something either next to their profile picture or their name for instance, where it says "Joined: April 12" it would say "TRIAL" in bold. That way we will all know to welcome that person and laugh at their jokes no matter what.
I've seen other places have referral contests- people invite their friends and the person who gets the most friends to sign up gets a prize. But in my opinion, that's a little schmaltzy and on-the-nose. Just putting that out there.
If people like Ricochet (which from my perspective it appears people do) then after a week they might sign up. People can't possibly know what the appeal of this site is until they sample it themselves.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
Yes indeed, thank you Ricochet. And thanks for all the work that goes on behind the scenes. It is appreciated.
And Ricochet keeps getting better.
Re: Thank You Ricochet
Why, thank you! How kind of you to say that you appreciate it! Make our day, I'll tell you.

Re: Thank You Ricochet
I was at a speech by Dr. Krauthammer this week (in Minnesota) and met a couple on their iPad's who had not heard of Ricochet. New converts! The quality and international coverage of Ricochet is unmatched. It is my first click throughout the day along with my hometown Powerline. Thanks to Peter and Rob and all the Editors...and contributors .
