Thank You, President Obama

I'd like to extend my personal thanks to the President for his thoughtful and moving speech in Tucson honoring last Saturday's shooting victims. Aunt Phyllis would have approved. And been delighted by Mr. Obama's send-off.

"A few minutes after we left her room...Gabby opened her eyes from the first time." --Obama during the speech.

A moving speech indeed.

Re: Thank You, President Obama
How many times did he say, "I"?
Re: Thank You, President Obama
I thought of you during, George.
He may have moved the country forward by distancing himself from what we've been hearing the past few days.
Doing it with Job was wonderful.
+ 1 Mr. President.
Too much cheering though at times. Felt more like a State of the Union show than a memorial service at time, but that may be reflective of the college aged crowd at the University.

Re: Thank You, President Obama
No doubt Obama's best speech. Very moving. The exuberance of some in the auditorium was a bit unsettling at times. I thought that some of the hoots, hollers and shout outs were a bit strange.
That said, I don't know how anyone, even here on Ricochet, can argue with the substance of the President's speech. And I am one of his harshest critics but I'll take the night off. The memory of what happened and of the wonderful lives lost are more important to reflect upon.
All the best, George.

I just read the transcript. It's well-written, conciliatory. Should be instrumental in putting all this ugly noise behind us.

Re: Thank You, President Obama
Where is the transcript?
I am especially curious as to what he said about Job (having recently put some of my own thoughts about Job regarding the matter here.)
EDIT: Oh, never mind. I've found the transcript on my own and read it already. Moving speech.

Re: Thank You, President Obama
The audience was atrocious, but the President was at his best--it was a very moving speech and it was a wonderful tribute to the fallen.
I am happy to hear that your Aunt would have approved.

I agree. With all the cheering from the audience, it felt like Obama was on the campaign trail--maybe he was.

Good. Now why don't you all run right out and get your Obama stickers. Have you forgotten what members of his own party have been saying about us? Did he make any statement condemning them for taking political advantage to benefit themselves and him? No. That would have been the one productive thing he could have done, but he did not, because he agrees with taking advantage of this situation. Just like Clinton, his next speeches will take direct political advantage.
Re: Thank You, President Obama
Give Obama some credit. He did say:
Re: Thank You, President Obama
I'm glad it worked for you, George. It was meant to try and soothe wounds, not create them for victims' families. How did your family members feel about the "vibe" of the night?
For me, the start of the memorial, with the cheering and the unprofessionalism (right word?) of the opening speakers, was shockingly inappropriate. It had the feel of a rally, as many have said here, which was deeply troubling for me. Having attended the funeral of my father and mother-in-law several months ago, I actually found it physically painful to watch. My husband watched it in disbelief.
However, I did tune in to Obama. I listened with nervous dread, waiting for him to stick a zinger in there, but he didn't. Thank God. I thought he made it as clear as he could -- without outright embarrassing that police chief guy in the 2nd row -- that pointing fingers and assigning blame was disrespectful to the deceased.
Obama took a big step up in my eyes last night. I will, however, be listening closely to see if he keeps up this approach in coming speeches.
