Thank God for the USMC

It's not a slow news day, of course, but before I post something meaty I thought I'd post something cheerful.
Justice served, USMC-style. From a local paper in Georgia, and I wish I had a link:

Re: Thank God for the USMC
They have really tall curbs in Augusta....

Slipped and fell? How many times? Upside down?

Re: Thank God for the USMC
Another good reason to move to Georgia.

Re: Thank God for the USMC
I LOVE it! The list of injuries from his 'fall' is sweet. ;)
This guy gets the Stupid Thief of the Week Award for trying to rip off a store when there were four Marines standing out front.

Sweet justice. We'll have return to local, grass roots enforcement of justice , since we can no longer depend on cops, courts, juries, and judges.

Have a nice trip. See ya next fall.

Re: Thank God for the USMC
I didn't know curbs and sidewalks in Georgia were so icy this time of year. Probably the result of climate change. Let this be a lesson to us: if we don't have a carbon tax soon, other knife-wielding assailants will pay the price.

I like how it's a slow news day and Pawlenty still can't get a lot of attention. Not a good sign.

The Best Buy really should install a good solid safety rail --- think of the insurance premiums.

Re: Thank God for the USMC
Frankly, I'm disappointed. It appears that one leg was left unscathed. Time was stabbing a Marine guaranteed you'd get EVERY bone in your body broken. It appears the leathernecks are going soft. ;)

double post.

I can also guarantee the surveillance camera out front malfunctioned, and no witnesses to the fall can be found. "Regional Justice" at its best.

Actually, it looks like Rob (and by extension, those of us who commented already) are eligible for the Pat Sajak prize for believing fallacious material on the intertubes. See the Snopes.com write-up, but basically while there were some marines who subdued a thief outside a Best Buy last December, they didn't beat him to a pulp and the police didn't file a false report.
Also, the actual thief's name was "Tracey Attaway." My hunch is that the name got changed someways along the way in order to make the story more racially marked. It's also anachronistic as the name "Tyrone" hasn't been popular since the early 1970s so a man named "Tyrone Jackson" would probably be pushing 40 and a bit too old for this kind of petty crime, which people tend to commit only in their teens and twenties.

Re: Thank God for the USMC
In the spirit of fun I think most of us (including Rob) knew it was too good to be true, but didn't want to bring down the room with a Snopes check. It's OK to fantasize occasionally.

Well, it does come under the heading of "Too Good to Check."
Truth, of course, is important. But there's Truth and there's Truth.

Absolutely.
A professor once told me that some gang in L.A. or another Californian city started mugging soldiers as an initiation ritual back in the 60s or 70s. So some Marines went to that city and beat the stuffing out of any person they saw wearing those gang colors. The violence against soldiers quickly stopped.
It might not be a true story, but there's certainly a good lesson there.

You're probably referring to the Zoot Suit riots of 1943, when sailors fought pitched battles with Latino gangs who got the name from the distinctive double-breasted striped suits they wore as colors.

My late, great father-in-law always said, "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story." Sadly, somehow the president heard that advice.
Back to the Marines. If it's not true, it should be.

I am embarrassed and ashamed that our public schools are failing to turn out a better-educated class of criminal.
Curbstone justice. No better friend, no worse enemy.
