  1. It’s headed “President Obama’s Birth Certificate”
  2. The attending physician’s name is listed as “Dr. Demento”
  3. The address given for Obama’s mother is actually that of Jack Lord’s house
  4. It’s scratch-’n’-sniff
  5. The street name, “Kalanianole,” is Hawaiian for “take this, combover boy!”
  6. It’s printed on the back of an 8” X 10” of Tom Selleck
  7. Curiously enough, both the doctor and local registrar were old poker buddies of Jack Ruby
  8. His mother’s occupation is listed as “some kind of academic social-science [expletive deleted]”
  9. It turns out that doctor died under mysterious circumstances last year at the age of 106
  10. Obama’s father? Don Ho

And here's a much less funny piece by Bruce Bawer that would, in a less frivolous world, get a lot more attention.

I'm not often surprised these days, but that piece is astounding.  Gay organizations supporting Imans who preach for gays to be executed?

I remember how angry I felt about that Host desecration.  I was equally angry that the press never pointed out that The Catholic Church ran the biggest health outreach programs for gays -- nobody cared for more gay men dying of AIDS than the Catholic Church.  It was a vital part of their ministry, especially under Cardinal O'Connor.  They even set up hospices specializing in AIDS patients.  It really wasn't that long ago that AIDS was a sure death sentence.  I cared for many young gay men who died horrible deaths as their sore-covered bodies wasted away to skeleton frames and their dementia took hold of once sharp minds.

I witnessed this same misplaced need to protest when AIDS activists gathered loudly outside the pharmaceutical firm in my town.  Drugs weren't being marketed fast enough.  Evil big pharmacy wasn't including enough men in their trials.  Science and FDA regulations be damned.

So once again, they bite the hand that feeds them.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.

So was Obama's handling of the birth certificate a disaster or a triumph?

Thanks for linking the Bawer thing, a good reminder that whatever our intramural differences all of us share a lot of values. We may differ on whether or not we want to reshape social institutions to accommodate gays, but none of us want to see them stoned to death and if it came to a choice between a world run by the Taliban and one run by HRC, we'd all be on HRC's side of the barricade.

I've been thinking a lot lately about Nixon in China, which is surprisingly sympathetic to Nixon. By American standards the creators are left-wing, yet the opera is basically pro-American. Mao Zedong and Jiang Qing come across as a couple of deranged bloodthirsty tyrants, which of course they were. In contrast Mr. and Mrs. Nixon come across looking like a couple of benign bourgeois who got lost on the way home from the Rotary club and found themselves in the cultural revolution. I can't imagine that if you asked Peter Sellars his opinion of Nixon in the abstract he'd say "basically decent man," but in contrast to Mao, all Americans have to admire any mainstream American politician.

Obama brought this on himself by refusing to release this information before the 08 election, aided by a subservient MSM which did a horrible job vetting their favorite candidate.  NO one could be bothered to REALLY look at his history.  Where are his college records?   His law school records?  No one could be bothered to look closely at his associations with Rezko, Ayers, Dohrn or Wright.  Serves them right that this is coming back to bite them on the .....

Several times I have stopped conversations dead by repeating Claire's question about whether or not gays who attack Israel have every given the slightest bit of thought to what life would be like for gays in Palestine. I'm ashamed of my brethren in London. And will take them to task for this.

I think Andrew McCarthy in National Review sums up my thoughts on the whole birth certificate issue quite succinctly.

Agreed - since he mentions it briefly, I left a comment there asking him to comment more on the dual nationality business, hoping he will respond. He can probably give the definitive answer on that.

Bruce Bawer has written two very good books on this topic.
