I have narrowed down Republican voters to seven types. These are people likely to vote for a Republican over a Democrat, not necessarily people who label themselves "Republicans." "Swing" voters are not involved in this taxonomy. Republicans tend to believe in the same things generally, but the emphasis and orientations can be quite different.
It is a circular constellation, much like the 9 personality types from Enneagram theory whereby you have a "wing" of the type closest to you. However, unlike that system, it also has an implied orientation. There will be a natural sympathy with a proximate type (the wing), but there is the addition of a directional flow.
It is based on what motivates or animates people, not so much on any specific political philosophy one might hold. It's more where someone comes from.
From the starting point on the wheel, a given voter or pundit will gravitate toward a direction. I've tried to include examples to help in understanding the system. There are probably better examples in some cases.
There will be exceptions, but I hope not enough to completely blow the theory apart.
I have also inserted something of a wild card in category E. However, this type is necessary for a complete picture, and I believe it is valid in itself. This type can travel in both directions at once and can be considered a balance point.
