When you don't have to slaughter and pluck the chicken yourself...now that's luxury.

Where was this?

We've joked about taking one of the horses through the drive-thru at one of the fast food places in town, but we'd never, ever actually try it. (Fast food places, by definition, are in high-traffic locations. High-traffic locations, by definition, are a really bad place to drive a horse. There are just way too many things that can go wrong.)

(I've copied the URL and posted it to Facebook. Will other people be able to see the link? I have lots of friends who drive, and this would be a treat to see.)

What if I simply don't like deep-fried chicken sandwiches?

The friend that texted me the pic I posted yesterday said she had a chicken salad sandwich.

No problem. How do you feel about apparatchiks dispensing business permits based on the owner's opinions? Buy the damn sandwich and hand it to the bum on the corner.

They have grilled chicken sandwiches, salads, and great cross-cut fries, too.  Or you can go across the street and get a Big Mac.  Or a Wendy's burger.  Or a Subway sandwich. Or stay home and have a PB&J.  Whatever makes your sweet little heart content.

But do it soon while it's still a free country and you are not being told what you can and cannot eat.  Oh wait...

(You're well-quoted today). Not to beat a dead horse (sorry) but the "deep-fried" chicken sandwiches are actually pressure-cooked and not deep-fried. Just for the record.

Last night near Sacramento: Money talks. At Chick-Fil-A. Parking lot is full. Store is full. Probably 150 people standing in line. The drive through line is a couple blocks long. Traffic is backed up on the freeway. Interesting to contemplate the larger significance: the reason that Gay Marriage lost in CA, the turnout in November.

The lady in front of me in line drove 40 miles....and then waited in her car for over an hour to get off the freeway and into the parking lot.The lines were longer when we left at seven than when we arrived at six.

In 1983, we went to Ft. Collins, CO, for Dan's Bake Sale. It was a Rush event that attracted 100,000s of people. I had never seen anything like it until Chick-Fil-A. One of the noteworthy things: huge crowds of people, waiting in ridiculously long lines to order, then waiting a ridiculously long time to get their order.....and I didn't hear a cross word or an angry comment throughout. People were kind and courteous to one another. As I recall, that wasn't the atmosphere at OWS. Something to think about.

Lancaster County, of course ! We have lots of Amish right east of here, but the towns are all too small for a Chick Fil A. I thought they all ate rhubarb chutney or something ?

It was a great day, went there for lunch and couldn't get in, dinner was a 1/2 hour wait, but the conversation and the buzz was awesome. They ran out of food just as we left. They were passing free sandwich coupons most of the day anyway. What a country ! ( thanks Yakov).

I prefer my meats to be cured and/or smoked rather than deep-fried.  So sue me!

Now, dairy-based desserts, those were made to be deep-fried.  I had a deep-fried cheesecake once that would knock your socks off!
