Here's news of a study that says having a lucky charm improves your luck. In fact, the research basically shows that superstitions help people in life. My question then: what makes them superstitions? Why aren't they just... you know: reality? Or performance-enhancing rabbit's feet? Or something. Of course the researcher explains that it's all due to the boost in confidence you get from your lucky charm or from being wished "good luck" or whatever. But how does she know? Where's the proof of that? Maybe that's just how the magic works, dude!

A friend of mine just sold his house and bought a new one, without sacrificing on either price, in the same month. He moved into his new home Friday and handed off the keys to his old one on Monday. The new house is twice the size (just 10 miles down the road), old but not a fix'er-up'er, with all new carpeting, water heaters, AC units... the works. When I asked how he managed that, he simpy pointed up at the sky.

Who needs rabbits' feet?
