Sullivan and the Beast
We don't traffic in gossip and conspiracy theories here at Ricochet, but I can't be the only one who's wondering why, exactly, Andrew Sullivan is packing up and moving to the Daily Beast. In honor of Andrew, I'm waiving the rules on gossip and conspiracy theories, just for this thread. If he takes exception, all he has to do to put the persistent rumors we're about to start to rest is provide documentary evidence that we're wrong. Can't be fairer than that, can you?

Re: Sullivan and the Beast
Apparently Conor Friedersdorf's plan - sneaking into Sullivan's office each night and moving every object on and around his desk a quarter-centimeter to the right - finally paid off.

Re: Sullivan and the Beast
It's just so annoying that his main issue used to be National Security and Democracy, and then he suddenly changed his mind and said "you know what's really vital to the future of the nation? Gay marriage, that's what."
Um, what?
Well, that and Sarah Palin's fine washables. That part I totally get.

Why bother? No one can mock Charles Johnson better than he does himself.

Re: Sullivan and the Beast
Perhaps he keeps posting craziness about Sarah Palin in order to provoke Todd or Track to come visit him and give him a physical beating. Sounds like something he'd treasure the memory of forever.

Who is Andrew Sullivan and why should I care where he works?

Re: Sullivan and the Beast
Wait - is Andy taking his entire Daily Dish wrecking crew (Conor, et al) over to the Daily Beast with him? Or does the Atlantic get to keep full custody of them?
His obsessive pursuit of the afterbirth should disqualify him for publication in any reputable outlet. He would be fine, though, penning his keen inquisitive insight in numerous conspiracy rags.
I'm not suggesting that he is a rabble rousing sycophant - I'm just asking questions.
Perhaps he is just biding his time for OJ to get out of jail. Then they could team up, and work together to find both the Real Killers and the Placenta.

Could all talk about Sully stop? Now?

Re: Sullivan and the Beast
I found it very curious, considering Andrew wrote a scathing essay about Tina Brown a few years ago, ripping on her for having no principles and only caring about "what's hot". But that was back when he was comparatively sane. She must be throwing a ton of Barry Diller's money at him and (I guess?) a column in her newly-revamped Newsweek. It just doesn't seem like enough. Maybe he's feeling the hate from the other Atlantic bloggers who got sick of his anti-Israel tirades.

And Charles Johnson is nuttier than a Chinese chicken salad.
