I never thought I'd write those words, but something just clicked yesterday.  Like many, I wasn't enthusiastic about Mitt Romney throughout the primary campaign.  I watched every debate hoping one of them -- Pawlenty, Perry, Newt, Cain, Santorum (not so much)-- would land that knockout blow.  I wanted a fighter, someone who could take it to Obama and his smirking Ivy League know-it-all toadies.  But in the end, the only one still standing was boring, stodgy, RINO-ey old Mitt.  I thought it would be a personal replay of 2008, when I'd declared, "I'd rather open a vein than vote for McCain" and then did so anyway.

Then this, from Buzzfeed:

"I thought we were going to see John McCain all over again," said Brad Thor, a bestselling novelist and popular figure on the right who supported Santorum. "But you know what? That fire I've felt for previous candidates, I'm starting to feel it. And that surprise presser at Solyndra was like pouring accelerant on the fire."

Thor said when he heard about the Solyndra stunt, he cheered aloud: "Way to go Mitt!"

"My God, this is right out of Breitbart's playbook. I love it!" he said. "I swear to God, if he roller skates into the DNC convention, or hijacks an Obama press conference--if he does either one of those I'm going to give my kid's college money to his Super PAC."

Yes!  I felt the same way.

Who among you would have thought boring, stodgy, RINO-ey old Mitt was capable of the kind of blistering counter-punches he's been landing of late?  Who would have thought his campaign would devil David Axelrod and leave him sputtering and at the same time launch a press conference in front of the empty Solyndra headquarters?

I'm still not 100% convinced, but for the first time I'm excited.  And last night my wife and I sent the Romney for President Campaign a big check.

Do we have our fighter after all?

St. Salieri: ...I'm more interested in the development and defensive of his platform going forward and (heaven be praised) if he wins, how he will actually govern; but I'm beginning to see/feel a little hopey and changey, I just pray it works out this time.

At least Romney will govern.  When one looks at the record, it is difficult to say that of Obama.

I LIKE Mitt Romney! I would vote for him, but can't because I am Canadian. Perhaps I may even send his campaign money. It affects Canada greatly when the States aren't doing so well. Wonderful to hear that Americans are beginning to like him too!

I have found myself actually - genuinely - supporting Romney, not just out of anti-Obama fervor, but for Romney. The two things that have cinched it for me was the last-minute rally at the Mass. state house an hour before Axelrod and, of course, the presser at Solyndra. Perfect. Witty. Unflinching.

Conservatives think they want Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk, but Romney is more Clark Kent/Superman.  No, I don't mean he's Superman, but mild-mannered.  Maybe most mild-mannered politicians wouldn't be able to get the job done, but Romney will, and will govern in a way you'll love.

I'll post something in 2016 and let everyone know if I'm excited about Romney yet.

Most folks need to realize that being humble and meek are strengths.  It is not defined as being either timid, shy, or weak.  Just teachable and being aware that we all need help.

Mitt is sharp (in a very balanced way), and has has a broad and thorough perspective.  He will speak clearly, candidly, and frankly when the timing is right and he can teach a specific conservative principle/value/issue.  Expect to see a "platform" sequentially woven over the next few weeks and months.

What Mitt lacks in personal "charisma", he will more than make up when folks start to come to feel that what they are being  presented through Mitt is pure truth.  It is more than emotion --- the "peace" that comes with truth is undeniable to each individual and finds a permanent place in your soul.

Others will indeed feel it as well.

I am so tired of Obama's ego.  Let's go with a honest professional "servant" that has been trained to turn around struggling business ventures.

Give me Romney and a few more Demints, Rand Pauls, and Ryans in congress and I will start to feel a little less apprehensive about my children's future.

Impressed too. Gotta believe Obama's campaign is on its heels, but don't underestimate the depths he'll go to. I suspect Axelrod has a file of fabricated dirt on Romney with a schedule to drop it. Gotta hope Romney anticipates this and is prepared to counter and drop his own bombs. Tighten your seat belts this is going to be one ugly ride.

Anybody else notice that Romney has ceased making stupid gaffes?

Think makes me conclude Romney is capable of learning- unlike McCain- and also has figured out the first rule of holes. Stop digging, that is.

Remember when Romney mentioned something about liking NASCAR because some of his friends owned NASCAR teams?

Yeah, that was a stupid gaffe. But I was impressed when Romney responded when asked if his ceaseless prattling about his rich friends- I'm paraphrasing the question a bit there- had hurt his campaign.

Instead of launching into a long-winded explanation of his remarks or whining about class warfare he simply answered yes, and moved on.

I'm starting to suspect he might turn out to be a good nominee after all, and I'm thrilled at the prospect of being wrong about him.

I sense, from the quick responses from Team Romney so far, that he has done oppo research on himself.  If so, he has stuff already in the can for everything the OFA dirt merchants can come up with.

Are you just plain old ordinary excited?

Or are you "Tebow excited"?!?!?!?

I feel great empathy for Mitt, because we both have the same debilitating social affliction, congenital progressive monotonousity, as a result of which nobody can really get all that excited about us . . .  ever.

In fact, the only person who ever got excited about me was my wife that one time several light years ago when she got pass out horny drunk on tequila and our pool guy, Rocky, was on vacation. (She kept giggling, "Rocko-baby, you've gained weight!")

Romney is Captain America ... a determined but kind man, a man almost out of another time who can fight for those old-fashioned values with resolve and class.

I'm glad to hear that Brad Thor is now on board. Now if I can just get him to stop blocking me on twitter, especially since he blocked me for disagreeing with him about, you guessed it, Romney.
