Ricochet Members,

mzl.zkhtpvzj.320x480-75_medium

Here's another great reason to renew your membership!  Our friends at National Review have offered 12 months of National Review/Digital -- 24 issues, a $19.99 value -- at no additional charge to all new and renewing Ricochet annual members! NR/Digital gives you access to digital downloads of the magazine's print edition. View NR magazine content in any standard browser or on your iPhone, iPad or Android device several days before the paper version arrives. NR/Digital is the perfect complement to Ricochet for any plugged-in conservative.

How do you take advantage of this special offer? It's easy. For annual Ricochet members, renew early to access NR/Digital now without having to wait until your renewal date.  Just log-in to Ricochet, go to your Account page and select Manage Subscription & Billing. Check the "Renew Early" box in the Billing Plan & Renewal section and Click SUBMIT*. We'll add a full year of Ricochet membership to the date on which your current subscription was due to expire.

Monthly Ricochet members who want to take advantage of this offer can easily switch to annual membership. On your Ricochet Account page, click the Manage Subscription & Billing button.  Then, select the Standard Yearly Subscription Plan, check the "Renew Early" box and click SUBMIT*. We'll bill you $29.95 and add a year to your Ricochet membership at the expiration of your current month.

So, renew early and get a full year of NR/Digital as a bonus. Plus, you'll lock in current rates before they go up (soon)!

*Please note that National Review will contact you within a few days of your renewal with instructions for accessing your NR/Digital subscription.

When can we expect the email offering free access to NR digital? I renewed hours ago and haven't received one.

Your announcement should include how we claim the digital subscription.

Hi Aaron,

Unfortunately, the process isn't automated. We have to manually send the names and addresses to NR and then they have to input them into their system. Consequently, it will take 24 to 48 hours for you to receive your confirmation email from NR.

But all the names are being recorded and you will  get your confirmation. Thanks for your patience!

That's fine. Thanks for the prompt response.

I recommend working that information into the announcement itself as an addendum. Not everybody will continue on to the comments.

I finally caved to Lileks and Long haranguing podcast freeloaders to pony up. I joined on October 13 - did I miss the opportunity for free digital NR by being too early?

Pressed Submit but received no confirmation that my order had been received, was good to go, appreciated, acknowledged, registered, understood, tolerated, chucked into the upper deck, tossed overboard, redirect to Pravda, or disregarded entirely owing to my staunch and relentless disdain for the Fay Lady.

Inquiring minds want to know.

A monthly sub suits me. No NR deal? Ah well.

I'm in the same boat as Grumpytarheel; I signed up for an annual subscription within the last month.  Am I just out of luck?  Seems silly to renew 11 months early.

I pressed the Submit button multiple times, is that wrong?

But seriously, it didn't even update the Order History list. And even though I checked the box that said renew immediately, it says that it will renew at my next monthly event. A little confusing.

So how does this play out for those of us who have a yearly subscription that renews automatically -- and have therefore always renewed early?

And now I have this in my mailbox:

Welcome your complimentary, Ricochet-sponsored one-year subscription to National Review Digital.

Below you will find log-in credentials that will allow you to immediate access to your subscription.

And this, coming in under the radar from constantcontact.com, after I had firewall blocked National Review for spamming me, an individual who cancelled his subscription several years ago, with Geraghty's Morning Jolt and Newsmax content.

This is deeply offensive.  I pay to subscribe to this site.  I do not wish my E-mail address to be “shared” with “partners”.

One more such violation of my privacy and trust, and the whole grande latte goes up your noses and I regretfully walk away from this.

To John Walker's comment, an opt-out check box would be good manners.

Along the same vein as John Walker...

National Review gets my money...

But do they REALLY need to compromise their integrity with tabloid-style ads in the footer of each article?

Please please please convince national review to move AWAY from such outright deceptive ads.

Also, the popups kill me.

I am already a paying member. Why are you popping ads up into my face?

...

Maybe I can pay more to have a VIP login to get rid of the worst ads?

Good grief. Such whining. They're emails, not knocking down your door. What's with the distemper?

To answer some questions still outstanding:

  • Anyone who joined or renewed (early or not) from October 16 until this promotion goes away, is qualified.  If you signed up on October 13, you can renew early to qualify.  You get a year tacked on to the end of your current subscription.  What a deal!  Keep all your current subscription time, add more at the current low price, and get National Review / Digital.
  • Checking the "Renew Early" box doesn't charge you immediately, unless you also provide credit card info.  This is to keep your card info safe.  Only the nightly billing server is able to decrypt your previously stored card info.  The web servers that you interact with cannot retrieve it, and we don't allow any outside connections into the billing server.
  • If you do submit CC info, the web server can charge you, before it encrypts it and stores it in the database.  So yes, you can get instant early renewal that way.
  • NR/Digital has asked us to send them a list of eligible names and emails every Thursday evening.  They will create your accounts on Friday morning and send you the details.

  • We are planning to raise the price in a few weeks, so if you want to lock in today's lower rate, AND receive NR/Digital before your current renewal date, renew early.
  • You do have to take manual action to renew early.  Go to your billing page and make sure that you have selected the yearly plan.  Then, also select the "Renew Early" checkbox underneath (only those who qualify will see it).  Click "Submit" and you are done.  The early renewal will be processed that night.
  • If you were already up for automatic renewal since we started this offer (that is, from October 16 until whenever we suspend the offer), you still qualify.  You do not have to manually renew early but will automatically be included, at the time your account renews.
  • John Walker, we apologize for the unwanted subscription to NR/Digital.  I will work on an "opt-out" button for those who happen to renew during this period but do not want NR/Digital.  You'll find it on this form when I have time to implement it.  For it to work, please select it anytime before renewal, or before the Thursday evening following your renewal.

They have disclosed my E-mail address, which I had every reason to believe would be held as confidential as any other of the information I provided upon subscribing, to another party—not just National Review, but a marketing organisation, “constantcontact.com”, whence further disclosures of this information cannot be known.

I do not wish to live in a slum, and I certainly won't pay to do so.
