Sometimes Things Just Explode: Update
It now appears that whatever exploded in Isfahan didn't just explode; satellite imagery apparently confirms that it was the nuclear conversion facility. (For what it's worth, if I were trying to drive the Iranians berserk, I'd insist that it was, even if it wasn't.)
However, it seems this iPhone4 did just explode.
The drama began when the crew smelt smoke in the cabin as a flight from Lismore in New South Wales landed in Sydney on Friday evening.
In a statement headed ‘mobile phone self-combustion’, Regional Express said: ‘In accordance with company standard safety procedures, the flight attendant carried out recovery action immediately and the red glow was extinguished successfully.

Re: Sometimes Things Just Explode: Update
SCTV clip from about 30 years ago, when there was still humor found in things randomly blowing up, because it only really happened in movies. Those days are gone forever.

I'm surprised that "self-combustion" app made it through Apple's rigorous approval process.

Re: Sometimes Things Just Explode: Update
Chevy Volt battery packs involved in side impact crashes sometimes spontaneously catch fire hours or days later... but that's really just a slow fuse on a time bomb going off. Side gas tanks on Chevy pickup trucks allegedly spontaneously blow up in side impact crashes.... but Dateline NBC had to use pyrotechnics to make sure in their re-enactment. The worst things that do spontaneously blow up (most often due to random static electricity buildup during loading) are grain elevators: suspended grain dust is a powerful fuel-air mixture.

It may very well be that iPhones are qualified to be drummers for Spinal Tap. Who knew?
