Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
Coming on the heels of reports that the White House pressured General Shelton to alter his testimony about how broadband company LightSquared's proposed wireless network might interfere with the military's GPS system, the latest development in Solyndragate is troubling.
Sept 20 (Reuters) - Solyndra LLC's chief executive and chief financial officer will invoke their Fifth Amendment rights and decline to answer any questions put to them at a Congressional hearing on Friday, according to letters from their attorneys obtained by Reuters.
In the letters sent to the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, attorneys for Solyndra CEO Brian Harrison and CFO W. G. Stover said they advised their clients not to provide testimony during the hearings.

Re: Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
How amazing is all this steaming pile of poop from this administration?
Michelle Maulkin's book that came out several months after President Obama took office really foreshadowed the corruption of this presidency.

Re: Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
Any word yet on how the White House perceives the optics of this development? I'm going to have to buy more popcorn.
Oh please oh please oh please let there be a memo or an email with "ATTN: R. Emmanuel" on it!

Re: Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
I think a select group of Dem's are leaking these transgressions. They can't primary Obama, they don't want to publically ask him to step down. He's doing major damage to their brand which will last for years.
I think this is the way they can 'take him out' and stem the damage.

Re: Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
Pop quiz, hot shot... You have some idiotic idea for creating "green" energy. You don't know the Second Law of Thermodynamics, because you never went to college. The President of the United States comes to you and offers you half a billion dollars to build your stupid device. What do you do? WHAT do you DO? (Answer: Shoot the hostage, and then lawyer up.) The words "mundane" and "predictable" spring to mind.

Re: Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
Solyndra is a classic Washington scandel. First, strong evidence of private lobbying to plunder (indirectly) the Treasury for private gain (or here to minimizeg private loss). Second, this mess is relatively easy for non-lawyers to understand and it involves a substantial monetary loss to the poor taxpayer. Third, direct WH involvement! And best of all the investigations will continue through November 2012 with a steady drip of outrages disclosed weekly, if not daily.
See Andrew McCarthy's recent piece in the National Review for why the executives have to take the 5th. (Actually, his piece strongly suggests that Obama himself is facing criminal liabilty.) Solyndra: the gift that keeps on giving.

Time to drag out the old Perpetual Motion Machine plans and apply for a loan.
Alas, one may have misspoke, seems we have one already.

But of course. Thanks for the catch.

Re: Solyndra Execs to Plead the Fifth
I suspect that they had some help from the WH or DoJ in making this decision. And I don't expect DoJ to persuade them to loosen the lips in exchange for a plea bargain either. Not till 2013 at the earliest. They will disappear along with the papers from the FBI raids.

Just think about the significance of what you are saying...if true. I'm not sure that will work. Who wants to cover for a president who is "dead man speeching..."

Yeah, flat panel TV's are made in Asia, so the US is going to get into the flat panel solar industry, and make em cheaper than China - makes perfect sense.

If one is left with the only option of Pleading the Fifth, one did not plan well.
Usually an admission there were no survival skills in play at the outset of an endeavor.

Perpetual motion machines? That's way too complicated. I'm going for the widget manufacturing grant. Much simpler.

Nuts!! I told my secretary to do a thorough search under 'widget'. Now I'm going to have to fire her. Good help is so hard to find these days. Hey, you wouldn't happen to have Warren Buffett's secretary's #? He's paying her like $300k per year for her to be in that higher tax bracket. She must be really good and I bet she wouldn't mess up a simple patent filing search.

If the concept is more complictated, eyes will glaze over. Grants come faster and there can also be new R and D projects. Besides, the Chinese already make widgets cheaper.

Apparently, the Chinese also already make solar panels.
