Sigh

They say a boy's sexual objects are established around the age of nine. This played an enormous role in establishing mine:
Anne Francis has died at the age of 80. She was the only celebrity to whom I ever wrote a fan letter requesting a photograph - which was duly sent and much cherished. I was crazy about her, and still am. Time stinks. Death sucks. RIP.

Re: Sigh
Yeah, nine- and ten-years-old is about the time the die is cast.
For me it was Abbe Lane fronting the Xavier Cugat Band on those hour-long variety shows (Sullivan, Moore, etc.) of the late 50s and early 60s.
Doomed.

Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man. Ninety-years-old and still with us. A force of nature on film.

Re: Sigh
The only celebrity to whom I ever wrote a fan letter was Lady Margaret Thatcher.
I enclosed a photo of her in combat fatigues, seeing the fleet off to the Falklands, and requested that she sign it and return it to me, which she did (or at least, somebody did).
We can all be grateful that Lady Thatcher failed her screen test for Honey West.

Ertha Kitt. Age 6. Vivid dreams. Passed last year, I think.

Re: Sigh
Must have been a late bloomer. I have no fixations from 74, though I do remember 55 MPH, Watergate, Nixon, etc.
But I have vivid impressions of the ubiquitous 76 Farrah pin-up and Cheryl Tiegs in her white fishnet one-piece!

Mary Tyler Moore caused my first "confusions". I will share your pain when she passes.

Ah, the wit is mightier than the wonk.

Andrew- I was not aware of Anne Francis until viewing that clip. It is clear to see why she made such an impression. She was stronger than granny's breath!
Natalie Wood had the very same effect on me, it must have been Splendor in the Grass, I know it was a Saturday afternoon matinee. Goldie Hawn in Butterflies are Free and Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde were right there too.
Much later in life I discovered The Thin Man series and lost my heart to Myrna Loy. I am conviced that one day some genius will invent the time machine, for the sole purpose of going back to see her in person.

Re: Sigh
Wow. I can see why. They just don't make them like they used to. I remember growing up and being enamored with Raquel Welch. I still stop what I'm doing and stare on the rare times she's on TV. I wasn't a nine year old boy, so if I was mesmerized I can just imagine what her effect was on them...or, would "them" be you guys, now? I'm just sad my ten year old son is fascinated with Lady Ga Ga.

Re: Sigh
For me it was Lee Remick as Eula Varner in The Long Hot Summer. A real potboiler starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. I was ten. Boy, was she sexy. (Check her out in Anatomy of a Murder. Yow!) Mrs. Funeral Guy bears a strong resemblance, as a matter of fact.

I think if I would have seen Andrea Ryan when I was ten, Mrs. Funeral Guy would resemble her.

Re: Sigh
I wasn't aware of her or this series...now Netflixed!
Related, I was quite impressed to watch some early "lost episodes" of The Avengers, with Honor Blackman. Not only was she quite excellent and playing basically herself (and until she left she was really the main character of the series, with McNee playing a side role), but I loved an episode where there was the typical "evil business man", a pudgy guy who cared only for money...who turned out not only to be innocent, but whom Honor Blackman's character developed real feelings for and decided to take out on a date!
Such a thing would never happen in today's enlightened media world.
