Should The Aspen Institute Really Hire Schiller The Public Funding Killer?
Please read the announcement about the Aspen Institute's hiring of Ron Schiller. If this guy is so bad that even NPR wouldn't stand by him for even a day, then why should the people of Aspen have to suffer his crap? I would say let's wait a bit to see if this tape is legit, but NPR fired him almost immediately. So how long do we have to wait? He was going to leave next month, but they kicked him out now, after a full assessment of the tapes where he sounds like nothing more than a hateful bigot sucking up to Musilim extremist sympathizers and and anti-semites.
He even shows-off with some good ole anti-semitism himself. To paint American patriots as racists and deciding who's Christian and who's not is as offensive as can be. It's bigotry. He's also sullied what's left of the good name of "educated elites."
I perform in Aspen regularly, albeit with a bottom feeding punk band, but I still feel a connection to the place and would be horrified to have these kind of anti-semites this high up the chain in what is otherwise a prestigious organization with people like Madeline Albright, Condoleeza Rice, and inventor of Mickey Mouse Michael Eisner as trustees.
Read the announcement. It's a puke fest after you've seen O'keefe's video. If there's any justice, Schiller will not be allowed to fail upwards to this new post in beautiful Aspen. How about an investigation into his handling of public funds, or abusing his fiduciary duties to shareholders for ruining what's left of NRP's good name?
I've done some work at NPR in L.A. I've never run into anything like this guy, just pros. He's really damaged the brand. Why let him damage The Aspen Institute?

You have to hand it to Schiller; as a gay man, he had no problem socializing with a couple of guys who, under Sharia law, would have been quite happy to topple a brick wall onto him.
The Aspen Institute is about as elite as it gets in lefty circles - but they're a polite elite; they don't court controversy. My guess is he gets the bum's rush.

It appears that he doesn't care about gay rights, America's national security, or anything but money.

Re: Should The Aspen Institute Really Hire Schiller The Public Funding Killer?
Based on this passage from the Aspen Institute's President & CEO Walter Isaacson, Schiller should fit in just fine.
"Aspen's seminars, programs and leadership initiatives offer a chance for restorative reflection on the meaning of the good life, leadership, and sound public policy based on nonpartisan principles and timeless ideas. The endeavor is particularly relevant today. We have passed through a period in the 1990s when we saw the consequences, in both the business and political arenas, of becoming unhinged from underlying values. We face a world in which the biggest threat, to nations and to communities, is a lack of tolerance and understanding."

As the old military adage (sanitized) goes -- Screw up, move up.

One aspect of this ugly event that has not been discussed is that I fear it is all too common for fund raising people to engage in the most rank sycophancy(sp?) and promise anything when they are on the hunt for money. The ideological contrast in this case is so stark that it became a problem for this imbecile but development, like all sales, I suppose, involves establishing trust and friendship first and working on the details later so I'm not surprised by it even though I'm delighted to see National Socialist Radio take it on the chin.

Re: Should The Aspen Institute Really Hire Schiller The Public Funding Killer?
Harman's fellow trustee and benefactor Michael Eisner said "In a wonderful essay, Maxwell Anderson states 'the arts make the longest reach toward permanence, create the most enduring monuments, project the farthest, widest, deepest influence of which human prescience and effort are capable.' We have so much to contribute to society through our arts program, and I am thrilled that Ron is joining us in this leadership role."
Micheal Eisner is the go-to guy at Aspen for all things artistic. That says it all.
For those who have forgotten, Eisner was a big-wig at Disney - yes, that well-spring of artistic innovation - who passed over Jefferey Katzenberg to hire Hollywood agent-mogul Micheal Ovitz. After that 14 month fiasco, Eisner was forced out of the company.

Re: Should The Aspen Institute Really Hire Schiller The Public Funding Killer?
Ron Schiller is going from one entity funded by George Soros:
Ron Schiller responded in a Current interview: “We’ve been talking to [Open Society Institute] for a year about this project, so there really is no connection — none at all.” Referring to O’Reilly’s implication that Soros influenced NPR’s decision on the dismissal, he added, “We’re very clear about our firewall here. We always have been, and always will be.” - NPR sets a goal
To another entity funded by George Soros:
Soros, through his Open Society Institute, provides support for the Aspen Institute, which runs various activities in support of its stated mission of “foster[ing] enlightened leadership and open-minded dialogue.” - George Soros’s Two Left Hands
I am not what there is about the Aspen Institute that he could damage.

The solution to the NPR problem is simple, as Schiller indicated. Create a more numerous elite and the forces of ignorance and oppression will fall before it. As a historical note, I don't think it was Eisner who invented Mickey Mouse, otherwise we would be going to Eisnerworld and Eisnerland.

In a breaking news, this announcement from the Aspen Institute just in.
" Our announcement yesterday of the appointment of Ron Schiller was in error and we regret our mistake. Due to recent events, the announcement is that Vivian Schiller has been appointed to the Aspen Institute. We have been given an opportunity to upgrade our Schiller at a reasonable price and have followed that direction. A better Schiller couldn't be had."

Say what you will about this guy, at least someone took a decent portrait of him.
Scratch any senior manager at an American non-profit or NGO, and you'll probably find Ron Schiller under the veneer of tolerance and sophistication. We aren't really surprised, are we? We're just enjoying seeing the spotlight on this repulsive class for a moment. There won't be any lasting effect, but it's fun watching the cockroaches scuttle back under the fridge.

Just saw he's not taking the job.

"Ron Schiller will not be joining the Aspen Institute as planned, according to a spokesman for the organization.". - NPR exec leaving immediately; will not join Aspen Institute
Apparently even some of George Soros' minions have standards. Although not all of them.

Re: Should The Aspen Institute Really Hire Schiller The Public Funding Killer?
Great. I knew we could do it. This guy irked me so much, he didn't even deserve the obligatory bad picture I could have posted of him. He should be remembered by his grand portrait. I'm exhausted. Who's next?
