... to laugh at North Korea?

And hey, Kim Jong Un, since you're interested in missiles, check out this cool video!

Update: While I'm still busy laughing, our more mature member Mark Wilson has already moved on to the next stage.

OT:  I usually log into Ricochet via Firefox, with all the ads blocked; but today, using IE, I see this silly Tammy Balwin-Buffet Rule twaddle.  What gives?  Can't these leveling screeds be ostracised from the civilized discourse that putatively inhabits this site?

I have never understood these guys. Whether it is Kim or Saddam or the other Member's Only guys; they all seem immune to routine debauchery. Seems like Kim could get Coors Light to sponsor and paint the rocket and then  have it explode and spray Coors Light everywhere. He and Coors could make millions selling Coors Light in North Korea.

Saddam etc. could have just left when we asked. He could have bought the Orlando Magic and gotten Chris Paul to play there. The President of Iran could easily make millions from Member's Only.

All they would have to do is quit killing people and threatening the world. Are sports, girls and beer just not enough anymore?

Oh yeah, they're crazy.

KC Mulville: If I had money to invest in stocks ... I'd put a couple of bucks into Japanese nuclear and missile defense.

Lockheed-Martin is the prime contractor for the AEGIS Combat System on which most of Japan's ballistic missile defense (BMD) is based.  AEGIS is also the base for our own sea-launched BMD systems, such as the one that shot down USA-193 in 2008.  If you want to invest, I suggest you start there.

Full disclosure:  I used to work for Lockheed-Martin on the AEGIS program, as a very minor cog.  By the way, when those missiles launch, they make a lot of noise. · 1 hour ago

Here's a little promo video from the Missile Defense Agency that gives a layman's explanation of Aegis BMD.

And here's a the short and sweet footage of a test intercept that took place exactly 365 days ago.

I am so happy for Young Kim! No, I am not sarcastic. It has been widely reported that the military brass are not quite supportive the new leader. Maybe it's the age, maybe it's the education abroad - whatever, if I were Kim, I would not trust these uniforms, either!

What a great opportunity to purge them all! They no doubt intentionally sabotaged the celebration of Dear Founder's 100-year anniversary. And by the way, the bad crops this year are going to be blamed on enemies' non-launch of weather satellite!

Couldn't be better! I am sure Cub Kim is smiling all the way to the firing squad!

John Russell: Stage separation is the hard part.

If the map at the bottom of this article is accurate, I'd guess it failed before staging.

Right, and North Korea's economy is currently based on smuggling, often via container ships. They already have delivery vehicles for nukes, they just take a month to reach US ports. I think that I'm more likely to be killed by martial force when I'm in London, LA, San Diego, or New York than I was when I was in Baghdad, albeit only because the risk in Baghdad, assuming the security measures in place was also low.

It's not just interesting that the North Korean media admitted that the launch was a failure.  It was UNPRECEDENTED that the North Korean media admitted that the launch was a failure!

This is the same media that SERIOUSLY claimed Kim Jong Il scored a perfect 300 the first time he tried bowling, and that even bears and birds wept when he died.

The North Korean media DOES NOT tell the truth to the North Korean people. Ever.

This is a major change in the way they do business.

What does it MEAN?  I have no idea.

He also shot 38-under in his first round of golf, cupping 5 holes-in-one.

Kim Jong-Un is supposedly Western educated, so he might realize what a joke his father was from an outsider's perspective, and lower the official state exaggeration level.

I suppose I'd laugh a little more freely if I didn't suspect that some of those held responsible for the launch failure were in the process of being tortured to death.
