The title explains it all. Obama has recruited pop star Shakira to serve on his Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

I, for one, would be eager to see some credentials.

Obama had no experience when he entered the White House, why should the people in administration have any?

Well, she did make Wycleaf Jean want to speak Spanish in that one song.  Maybe she'll inspire this generation to study.

Shakira has donated millions of dollars to build schools in Latina America and Haiti. She's done good work.

And by the way, guess who established this Advisory Commission?

None other than George W Bush.

She has been taking at least some college classes (in disguise to avoid being mobbed). I'm not saying that a couple of classes makes you an expert at the level we expect of presidential advisors, but I do have a soft spot for people who pursue education despite having no practical need for the credentials it confers.

Few actions on the Left could disgust me more than gestures such as this. Advisory Council on Hispanics? Ah, I see because of my heritage or the tone of my skin I am not one of the American citizens you have a duty to represent but I need a special advisory council. Contemptible.

Ms. Isabel Mebarak Ripoll is admirable in many respects, the charity work she has done in South America is inspiring. While I cannot claim to be pleased with her entertainment career she has put it towards noble ends. That she has allowed herself to be used in this fashion is saddening.

I bet her agent told her this was a good way to shore up the cred with the people in the biz . The show biz folk ( except Rob Long) are all liberal , she is no exception, and this is a career move. Another bet on whether there is payback involved , this is Chicago after all . Someone should ask her what she thinks of Uribe.

The administration obviously agrees that her hips don't lie.

Yep. I'm not surprised. This is a mark of the moderate collectivist.
