What We'll Be Drinking

Claire will be in San Francisco on Thursday, September 2, so we thought it might be fun to get a few of us together for drinks after work. I'd expect a handful of local contributors to show up -- e.g., Peter, Rob, James, George, and Diane, along with Claire -- and we'd hope that some our local members will be able to join them.

We haven't locked in the specifics, but it will probably convene right after work (5:30ish) in the financial district or along the Embarcadero. And yes, that is Nancy Pelosi's district, in case the Speaker wants to commence her investigation right then and there.

Details to follow.

Dear Heavens, Ursula, leave us not turn it into a reality teevee show. But hey, it's cheaper than even the NR cruise.

Oh, no! Normally I could come right over from work, but I am traveling that day. Would have been great to meet everyone.

Will anyone support me in the plea to meet somewhere with punching bags and focus mitts? I'm supposed to go on Peter's show the next morning. I just can't go out and tie one on. And come on, it would really be more fun, I swear it would be. I mean, you all already know what I have to say about everything.

Can't help you with the punching bags, Claire, but if you're looking for a great place for a workout in the Financial District, there is an Equinox in the old Pacific Stock Exchange building at Pine and Sansome.

Count me in. Can Creepy Talking Cat come along, too?

Watch your liquor consumption, gentlemen. You don't want to get into a bar fight with Claire.

I'll try to swing by. Can't stay late, gotta be back down the peninsula at 8, but I don't want to miss a chance to say hi.

With apologies to Michael Jackson, I'm a runner not a fighter.

There are some amazing routes in SF. I recommend we head along the Embarcadero north past Crissy Field, then climb the Presidio to the Golden Gate Bridge, across to the Marin side observation area and back. It's about 13 miles in total and absolutely spectacular (easy to bail out for shorter mileage at any point before the GGB). And after the heat of Istanbul this time of year, I guarantee the 60F gale force wind will keep you awake and alert throughout.

Or we could just have a beer.

There are, but only a very, very short time--maybe on September 7. I'm just flying down to speak on a panel then flying back out again,

I'm there. But there need to be some ground rules, as this is San Francisco after all. If Dr. Schmitt is planning to come to discuss gay marriage for instance at anything louder than a whisper, that could prove awkward. Entertaining, but awkward.
