Seattle Meetup Report
The first Seattle Ricochet Kaffeeklatsch was a resounding success. Intrepid members and brave spouses waded through a sea of liberal humanity to congregate before, and pay homage to, the flagship Starbucks in downtown Seattle.
As you can see, Starbucks at Pike Place Market is the place to be, but not really the place to have coffee and conversation. Yes, most of that crowd is waiting to get in. Being true conservatives who value both our time and our treasure we moved our party up the street to a nice cafe which offered immediate seating and less noise. Ken Owsley and I ordered the only thing on the menu with ingredients we recognized and hoped for the best. After all, it is downtown Seattle.
We settled in for a lovely brunch and commenced to undermine the very foundation on which Seattle is built with some lively and far ranging conservative conversation. We discussed everything from our individual introductions to conservatism and Ricochet to the upcoming presidential primary. Our server was gracious enough (or ignorant enough of our purpose) to allow us ample time to enjoy each others company. Alas, one can only sit in a booth for so long and we moved our conversation into the sunlight. We finished trading ideas and email addresses in the fresh salt air of Seattle's picturesque waterfront on an uncharacteristically beautiful day.
After too short a time we said our farewells and went our separate ways vowing to gather again. Our minds elevated with stimulating conversation and our hearts uplifted by such amiable and indomitable companions, we adjourned the first Seattle Ricochet Kaffeeklatsch. As I boarded the ferry home I was struck with an uncanny feeling that every face was familiar and each person an old friend.
Thank you to everyone who made it. Thank you to the member who graciously attempted to pick up the whole check. If Rob Long every comes to Seattle we will graciously let him.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
I see we selected the right person to do the write up. Thanks, Prawn. I continue to be impressed with the high quality of people at Ricochet. Most enjoyable.
I want to offer my sincere thanks to Peter Robinson and Rob Long for Ricochet. You have done something wonderful. God Bless America.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
I would have been there, but Texans don't do "Kaffeeklatsch[es]."

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
If we do one in Texas I suspect there will be some brisket involved. Mmmmm, brisket.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
I think $3.58 is the price of a Tallboy at a topless bar.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
The waterfront . . . Pike Place Market . . . you're making me miss my old home. If only I had known there was at least six other conservatives out there in the city (or did you all drive in from the eastside?).

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
Three of us are from Seattle proper, Vance. Try and make it next time we meet....

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
I'm from across the water in Kitsap County. I only go into Seattle if there is a very compelling reason. I will be at every Ricochet meeting held there.

Is that you on the right (heh), KP?
Thanks for the recap. I really enjoy reading about these Rico-meetups and seeing everyone's photos.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
Perhaps I will make a Seattle meet-up. A dear and VERY liberal friend works for those guys in Redmond, and I owe her a visit. I will need a cup of coffee with you all.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
It was a nice time and yes, PJS, it would be lovely to have coffee with you too! For Vance, I live deep in the heart of Jim McDermott's district so it made meeting with fellow Ricochetoise a delight. Sort of like arriving at an oasis after a long desert trek.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
Just wanted to let you know there is another Seattleite as a member. Not only that, as a Montlake resident I have Baghdad Jim as my congressman. My house is easy to identify. It is the only one with the flag flying on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, etc.. I often worry that a neighbor will shimmy up the downspout to set it alight.

I will try to join you guys at your next meetup in western WA. I live in Olympia, so Seattle isn't that far away!

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
The next get together will be after my deck is completed, and my 12v DC man has fixed my boat trailer. Then it will be some fun time in the sound plucking crab from their watery depths and boiling them up!

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
I am all for semi-regular meet ups. I am still buoyant from our time together. Saying that everyone felt like an old friend was not just a literary device. Ken, the crab might even entice my wife to come. I'll bring a steak. It's a Texan thing.

Re: Seattle Meetup Report
I remember seeing McDermott around town every now and then when I lived in Queen Anne. One thing I noticed living amongst radical lefties is that the few conservatives you do meet tend to be stronger in their views and better informed. I guess you have to be.
Anyway, I only spent 5 of my 45 years in Seattle but my wife and I still think of it as home (in part because that is where we spent our first years as of marriage . . . 3000 miles from the nearest in-law. Also, the water and mountains are a bit more picturesque than the highways and malls of NJ)
