Sausage the Greek Protest Dog

This is Lokanikos. He's said to be a stray who for some reason just loves anti-austerity protests. He barks at the police and runs from tear gas. He's been showing up at Greek protests for years (the article doesn't explain what kind of protests he came to before the austerity plan). His name means "sausage."
Cheer up, Germans! How can you feel churlish about spending your life savings to bail out the feckless Greeks when they've got such a cute mascot?

I'm a little surprised Sausage isn't a dachshund -- they're the wienerdogs, after all.

Great video. That dog makes rioting look so upbeat, doesn't he?

Y'know, I think your cat fancidom is blinding you to what makes for an actual cute dog. As a dog person since birth, when they were lickin at me in the manger, this one's got no game. Not all that, nor even a bag of chips. It's a sad comment on the state of modern Greece is this is the best they can do.

The dog is not the only one who's been conditioned out there.

Modern dogs are bred as far as adolesence, thats why they like you and want play rather than eat you straight out of the gate. The lack of Adult behavior explains the dog, the analogy applies to the rest of the protesters. Look at the picture of the dog closely. If you know dogs, thats the what am I gonna get thats good look.

Re: Sausage the Greek Protest Dog
Aren't German life savings on the line only if Greece goes bankrupt (dealing a blow to German banks)? I'm kindof confused, they're just pissed at fiscal transfers, right? Hard to avoid at this point; even a Greek default would entail an implicit German fiscal transfer (the Germans would bail out their banks rather then the Greeks, but the result would be similar).
I personally think the Europeans are coddling their banking systems. Countries with fiscally responsible governments (like Ireland and Spain, not Greece of course) shouldn't be punished for accept bailouts that benefit foreign holders of bank debt, paid for by the hard-earned taxes of their own citizens. Both countries should simply let their banking systems go bankrupt, then pick up the pieces.

I've always loved that Greek sausage with the orange peel--the brand I get spells it Locanico. Now I hope they're not putting orange peel in there to mask the taste of dog.

I miss having Loukanikos and Saganaki at my favorite restaurant in Greektown in Chicago. Opa!
I'll give it all away, though, for the rest of my life, if the cradle of western civilization will pull its collectiv(ist) head out of its [elided for non-conformance to Ricochet's code of conduct].
