I know, I know,…it’s not relevant to the major issues of the day. But it is the weekend, so a break isn't necessarily a bad thing. After all, college football starts in a few short days,…and it is Saturday Night. And back home on the bayou, as the video shows, Saturday Nights are very, very special. Geaux Tigers!

Preferably Southern Comfort. Bracing and smooth, like a good defensive tackle. Cheers!

Wrong Tigers, but there's nothing like SEC football. Perhaps some Ricochet rivalries are in store for the upcoming football Saturdays.

Sports have never interested me unless I can personally be killed doing them.

You might try stepping in front of the LSU marching band then. Or you could visit the mascot, a live Tiger weighing in at almost 500 pounds (and he's not fully grown yet). On second thought, don't do that. Ricochet would lose a very interesting member.

That's not sports. That's either madness, or military necessity. I do recall you posting about your own experience in that regard. Seriously, I'm in awe. Absolutely in awe. If I have to jump out of a perfectly good plane, it's because someone on the ground needs to be dealt with in an extreme fashion.

Actually, it's a spiritual experience. Every time my parachute opened, I said, "Thank you, Jesus!"

This is the year the Buckeyes take it to someone in the SEC, good and hard, in January. It'll happen. I swear. I think. I hope.

Dave Carter

Oh goodness, Scott. So far, the only thing Ohio has taken to the SEC is the championship trophy, whereupon they handed it over. First Florida, then LSU dismantled them in consecutive years, if memory serves. They're good, no doubt about it,..but I wonder if the Big Ten really prepares them for national contention any longer. They arrive at the championship game looking like they've been beating high school teams all year. But keep hope alive.

The last consequential game I went to was the '07 Sugar Bowl, ND vs. LSU. Come to think of it, that was the last consequential game ND played, and they were thoroughly outclassed in the second half.

Having said that, I think we may have it right this time with Kelly. History teaches that when we hire an experienced college head coach -- Holtz, Devine, Parseghian, Leahy (Willingham being the exception) -- we prosper. When we don't -- Weis, Davie, Faust, Kuharich, Brennan -- we languish.

Next Saturday can't get here soon enough.

Yeah, I can hardly sit still.

War Eagle, by the way. Hopefully last year was an anomaly in the LSU vs. Auburn match up and it will return to the intense nail-biter it usually is.

I love Les Miles' coaching style, but am glad he's not our coach. I can admire him while watching dispassionately, but I'd have an aneurysm if Auburn's coach made some of those calls.

Dave Carter

Hegesias, we don't call him the Mad Hatter for nothing. I like him, but I know he's going to put me a cardiac unit one of these days.

Dave, if you're still there: I can't shake the hunch that Miles will end up back at Michigan one day. Very much hope I'm wrong, for obvious reasons. Am I just paranoid?

Dave Carter

Scott, just stopped to refill coffee and saw your question. I don't think you're paranoid,...but I suspect I am. All appearances indicate that Miles is very happy in Baton Rouge, so there is nothing I can hang my hat on to explain my own paranoia, except history. Back home, we've grown weary of training coaches for the pros, or an opposing team. I really thought Miles would head to Michigan back in 2007, but he stood his ground and the result was a national championship. We were elated,...but we've learned not to be too surprised when someone says that they will never go to Team X,...and then proceed to go straight to Team X. With our luck, you'll be safe,. and Miles will go to Ole Miss. At least we train 'em well.

L-S-Who?

Re: Les Miles, hopefully he's looked at Rich Rodriguez's experience and knows there is no reason for him to screw up a good thing. And Scott, don't take too much confidence from that Rose Bowl win over Oregon last year. Playing an SEC champion or near SEC champ in a major bowl is a much different animal than one of those wobbly-kneed West Coast pretenders.

Funny, I get a strong whiff of corn dogs...

(For the benefit of all you furriners, the preceding is a very-inside SEC joke.)

LSU leads UGA in the series by two games. Interestingly, LSU is the only team to whom Georgia lost twice in the same season: 2003. Once in the regular season and then again in the SEC Championship game, a dismal night in Atlanta. That's only 27 games over the years which surprised me.

As for the Big Ten, I will offer this observation: Each Big Ten team plays an average 3.18 games against ranked opponents whereas in the SEC that number 4.5 games against ranked teams. More strikingly, Kentucky has the least with three and LSU and Miss State play six games against ranked teams. Everyone else has four or five. In the Big Ten, only Minn plays 5, Ind, Mich & Ohio State play four and everyone else plays 2 or 3.

Dave Carter

Red & Black, I remember that SEC game very well, though I don't remember the night being dismal at all. Thanks much for going through the stats about who plays ranked teams, etc. It does make a difference.
