Sarah's Out
Here's the letter she sent to supporters this evening (via ABC News).
October 5, 2011
Wasilla, Alaska
After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this orderMy decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.
From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.
I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.
Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.
In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.
Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!
God bless America.

Re: Sarah's Out
Darn, I was just about to press "post" on a draft of my own conversation. I thought I was going to be the first one to start a topic on Ricochet. Oh well.
I'm excited to hear the interview she had with Mark Levin when his show gets up on the internet.

And the coveted endorsement goes to......?

Re: Sarah's Out
Sarah Palin is the one candidate that I would not hesitate to campaign for. That said, I was already feeling exhausted at the thought of having to defend her to liberals, independents, AND conservatives. I'm glad she isn't running.

Re: Sarah's Out
Good for her and her family. Classy statement too.
Our choices are getting clearer. Now if we could only talk Paul Ryan into a run...
Re: Sarah's Out
That is indeed the burning question. I wonder if she's going to hold out on issuing the endorsement for now. I assume out of Romney, Perry, and Cain, it would go to Cain. But it's possible she withholds the endorsement altogether.

I share that feeling, Michael. But I think this note is beyond bulsch. In other words, watch me on Fox News. Good grief.

The last would shock me the most, this is what she has been building up to: Kingmaker. I'm inclined to suspect she has finally settled on her choice and we will be hearing it soon. My money is on Cain as well.

+1 Herman Cain

It's possible (in my mind, probable) that she waits for the Party to make its nomination before she begins to actively campaign on the nominee's behalf. It appears that she believes Obama must be replaced at all costs, so if this means supporting a less than savory candidate, she'll do it.

Re: Sarah's Out
What may be most important in her wording is that she precluded any buzz about an independent run. It started with a not GOP run, but then made clear that she would work for the GOP. Hopefully, that will settle things. I would have been happy to advocate for her candidacy, within the GOP, and trust that she won't channel walllflower Ann Coulter, advocating for Romney.
Yeah, yeah, I'll vote for Romney, if I have to, but that path is not going to lead to the turnout we need to win decisevly against a corruption machine.

Re: Sarah's Out
Well, that pretty much leaves me choosing between Perry and Cain. I haven't written Perry off yet. If he can prove more competent at future debates, I'll keep him as an option. Cain scared me off when he stated opposition to religious free practice earlier in the cycle, only to then pander to the Islamist lobby after he was called out on it. However, his strengths appeal to me, so I'm also keeping him open as an option.
I'm essentially at the point where I'll just wait and see which of these two holds up best over the duration of their campaigns. If it becomes Romney as the default candidate, I probably won't vote (in the primary).

Re: Sarah's Out
Romney has been campaigning for six years, and he hasn't made the case with me yet. He'd be better than Obama. A hernia is better than a double hernia.

Anybody else notice that Mrs. Palin did not mention if she would take the VP slot if offered?

Re: Sarah's Out
Well, I'm certainly disappointed. Sarah Palin was the only reason I voted for the Republican ticket in 2008. Until McCain picked her, I was going to sit the election out.
Going into the 2012 primaries, it is imperative that the Republican nomination go to a principled conservative. Mitt Romney is not that man. Count me as a supporter of Herman Cain.

I literally just finished watching The Undefeated with my wife when I turned on my computer and saw the headline. I'm very disappointed. Now, to choose between Perry or Cain.
I'm leaning Cain...

Re: Sarah's Out
I agree with everything except the "glad she isn't running" part.
My hope is that she has something else up her sleeve (and I doubt it is a third-party run, which is the only thing I won't support). I hope that she not only stays in the public eye, but places herself vigorously in the media's face. I'd certainly support, say, a campaign of hers to chastise and humiliate the MSM. And weasel politicians, too.
I have more enthusiasm for something like that than the campaigns of the current presidential candidates.

Re: Sarah's Out
Sarah Palin could be the inspirational, determined, optimistic, energetic leader this nation needs. But her presidetntial campaign would be dominated by the hatred of those who want the values she holds and lives destroyed. This election has to be about Obama. I'm confident she will be a force in bringing about the restoration of the greatness of America by energizing conservatives to work for the party's candidate, who will embrace her message of freedom and individual responsibility, an end to crony capitalism and a new beginning of energy self-sufficiency.

Re: Sarah's Out
If Perry can reignite his campaign in the next few debates, I think Palin will go to Iowa to support him. If not she might support Cain but as much as I like Herman Cain I think he is running to be the Donald's replacement as host of Celebrity Apprentice. I wonder if Romney can win the nomination with lots of money but only 25% support of Republicans. That is a good question for Mike Murphy.
