Sarah, Too Cute By Half
Many people were frustrated by the cute little "will she run or won't she?" game that Sarah Palin played during most of 2011. To some folks it seemed like she had no intention of running but was playing coy to keep her name in the headlines and make more money.
Well, Sarah's up to her old tricks again with her refusal to come out and officially endorse Newt Gingrich, even though she said she would vote for him in South Carolina and now has done the same in Florida. Look, I have no problem if Palin wants to endorse Newt, which would make sense given that they share a common constituency - for now, anyway. But if she thinks her refusal to officially endorse leaves her options open for a spot in a potential Romney administration she is kidding herself. Take a stand, baby! Herman did!

Palin never flipped nor flopped on her decision to run. She held out as long as she could to get a clear picture of the field and the circumstances then decided not to run. Any conclusion one draws that she was playing games with her supporters has to be assembled with insinuation, cynicism, and guessing. There are no FACTS supporting these claims. To borrow a word from Katievs, anyone who makes such claims without facts diminishes themselves.
As to her Newt non-endorsement, she has said, very clearly for those interested in facts, that she wants the primary race to be extended and is trying to prevent an early coronation.
All one has to do is listen to what she says, and have the maturity to set aside their animus, to know what she means.

No, not really. It's a bit odd but so is this whole campaign. She's not the only person arguing the race should keep going.
The "will she won't she" last year did bother me. She should have decided sooner. It left her supporters hanging and made it harder for someone else to jump in. It's not that different from Rubio, DeMint, Ryan, or Jeb Bush criticizing or praising candidates but not endorsing.

Not in the least and the Chris Christie panties in a wad comment was choice. This entire Primary has become a WWE style gong show so its hard to say any one individual is acting in a more annoying fashion than anyone else.

What I didn't like was her encouragement that SC voters support Newt so that the primary could continue longer. How 'bout letting SC voters vote for the candidate they choose. Don't encourage people to "send a message" or cause something else to happen with their vote. Vote for the person you want to see as the Republican presidential nominee. That is it. She made it very clear that she didn't support Newt, only that she wanted the process to continue longer. That's fine, but it is a bit selfish to encourage people to waste their vote so that you can get your desired outcome.

There's no indication that Palin has any interest in a position in a Romney administration. Although, if Romney wins the GOP nomination he will most certainly want her help during the general election.

So that she's free to endorse one of the other two if he self-destructs again? -- she's going to push the not-Romney whoever that is? Or she thinks Romney will win anyway and she thinks she keeps more influence to unite the party behind him if she doesn't actually endorse the other guy? Or she thinks the race is making them all better? (Getting riskier at this point.) Or she wants a brokered convention?

She prefers Newt, but wants to keep her powder dry, given his penchant for self-destruction. Actually quite smart: the "keeping the powder dry part," not the "preferring Newt" part.

To express views and encourage outcomes is what we are all about. Encouragement is not coercion. To live in a vacuum and vote without listening to other voices is how the American people elected HRH-O.
Otherwise, what is the point of the "debates"? Why run campaign commercials? Why go on interview shows?
Or is the real problem who Palin chooses to stand behind?

Sarah has finally gotten on my nerves. I see her as yet another of the A-listers who are guilty of dereliction of duty to this country by NOT running. Throw in Mitch Daniels, Paul Ryan, Haley Barbour. I don't care how personally painful the process is. These people are well aware of the critical situation we're in and have an obligation that transcends it.
Sarah's excuse that she just wants to see the process extended doesn't really pass the laugh test for me. She is transparently for Newt and should simply say so.

Frozen Chozen, I think your hide has been worn away with all the fractious friction around here over Romney. You're sounding a little thin-skinned.
Edit: Sorry, Frozen, what I wrote was snarky and didn't add anything to the conversation. I can't fault Palin for her position, it's just where I find myself. Wondering if Newt can straighten up and fly right, with indications that he'll continue to do so, and on top of that worried about his electability. But even with Newt's negatives, I'm not going for Mitt, not yet anyway. In fact, I'm skipping the primary tomorrow, my vote would have all the significance of a coin toss.

Maybe because she knows that if she endorses Newt it will be used against her to defuse her endorsement of Romney in the general election, should Romney become the nominee. Maybe she's thinking ahead to defeating Obama and ensuring that her general election support of the nominee, whoever he is, can't be dismissed as "but you endorsed his opponent in the primaries."

I'm not annoyed by Sarah Palin at all. I'm far more annoyed by Ann Coulter's increasingly bad attitude and the open disdain she is showing toward middle-class conservatives who long admired and defended her.
