Sarah Palin's "Mom Awakening"

Sarah Palin released a campaign-style video yesterday geared toward mothers and women in general. Not a whole lot of substance in the two-minute video, but Palin sure does a good job at channeling the widespread "we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore" sentiment in an upbeat and inspiring way.

Re: Sarah Palin's "Mom Awakening"
I usually defend Sarah Palin and AM one of those angry grizzly bear moms she talks about, but I was pretty irritated by this slick video. Watched it a second time with my husband and counted about 30 short video clips of Sarah Palin in less than 2 minutes. I'd much rather have listened to her while watching inspirational video clips of women around America. Felt like I was watching a "why we all need to adore Sarah Palin" video rather than a call to action, and that's tough for a fan of hers to say. My husband, on the other hand, loved the video and its message and completely disagreed with my criticism of it. I just wonder if this was geared toward women or is it instead targeted to red state men who love their women and the important job they do? Just a thought...

Re: Sarah Palin's "Mom Awakening"
I wasn't all that inspired about the video, but I'm not part of the target audience. This is a video for mothers. When women feel the need to march because they perceive their children are threatened, a primal instinct has been provoked. Palin understands this in her marrow. Her "Momma Grizzly" analogy is precisely the right metaphor. You don't need to look deeply into this video; the message is understood by mothers everywhere.

If it's the very first ad in a 2012 presidential campaign, then it's a good ad. But if that wasn't the intent, it's off message.

Re: Sarah Palin's "Mom Awakening"
I first saw this on the local news (in D.C.). The anchor was interviewing someone (I forget) about their reaction to it. The anchor wrapped up a fairly balanced interview with a cutting remark,"but those are mostly pro-life women." You know, as if conservative women would only get involved in politics over abortion. I liked it, actually. I know politicos are talking about the "Wal-mart moms" being an important voting block in the upcoming national elections. But conservatives have a big hill to climb to get them. GOP candidates will have to avoid issues important to social conservatives. The Wal-mart moms invested a lot in the Obama persona, it will be hard to convince them he's a disaster. I came across this today looking at some mommy blogs. Brand loyalty is tough.

Picture didn't post, here's the link. The boy in the Obama cape is about halfway down the page.

Oy. Do Huckabee and Palin cancel each other out and create an opening for Romney? Oy, oy, oy, Sarah, please do not run in 2012...

With ya somewhat on the Palin-Huckabee fears, but the trainwreck that is Romneycare is growing more and more spectacularwith each passing day. Impossible to overcome, I'm afraid. And frankly, he might not deserve to overcome it, much as that hurts to say.

Scott Reusser, yes it's a burden for Romney, but if he couches it in terms of the Tenth Amendment, I don't think it necessarily sinks him. And I think he has enough private sector cred to pull that off.

ParisParamus: Couching Romneycare in Tenth Amendment terms can exonerate him from accusations that it's similar to Obamacare, but it can't excuse its ineffectiveness (or worse-than-ineffectiveness). Wish he could go back in time.
And about that video: It's a vapid, Obama-esque, cult-of-personality promotion. Oy is right.

Scott, I think you hit the nail on the head. It's the cult-of-personality element to this that gave me the heebie jeebies. Palin's voice isn't her strongest asset but I'd still have rather just primarily heard her and seen video of a lot more mad-as-hell-and-we're-not-going-to-take-it-any-more moms. The ad producers were either very lazy or else scarily like Obama promoters.
