There's a good rule of thumb in live television: when the crew is laughing, it's genuinely funny. Say what you will about Sarah Palin the politician, but Sarah Palin the broadcaster -- who co-hosted the Today Show yesterday -- isn't doing too bad for herself:

Gus Marvinson: Constitutional originalism: check.

Economics: check.

Foreign policy: check. (On several occasions, Dr. Victor Davis Hanson has stated publicly, on a recent Ricochet podcast as a matter of fact, that he "really likes Sarah Palin." VDH knows or cares nothing of foreign policy, right?)

Energy policy: check.

Hawt:  check.

Yes, indeed.  I still enter a weird temporal shift thinking about my Commander-in-Chief being so... her.

One only has to read what some very smart and wise people have remarked after meeting, briefing, or working with Sarah Palin to understand there is more to Sarah Palin than conventional wisdom (e.g. "quitter, celebrity, caribou barbie") admits.  Take five or ten issues: health care, crony capitalism, defense, Israel, The Federal Reserve, private vs. public enterprise, Islamism, constitutionalism, small enterprise, bailouts, liberty. That's eleven. Take a moment to reflect on her contributions to the debates on these subjects. There is a long and wide media trail - her speeches, commentary, writing and the dialectic result.  Compare and contrast to any political figure on the left or the right. Consider what you might desire in a leader, what their contributions to the debate amounted to, their endurance and whether their persona is waxing or waning.

She is young. Luckily for us we have not heard to last from Sarah Palin the politician.

Agreed.  But I'd add that of the 4 people on the tickets in 2008-- Obama, McCain, Biden, and Palin, she's the only one I wish was president right now.

No doubt about that, my concerns about her above notwithstanding.

I hope so...she has tremendous talent.  As Gus and Viator remark above, she has lots of smart and wise admirers.   But as one of her admirers suggested (BTW, VDH, whom Gus referenced), sitting out 2012 was wise because she could use more seasoning.

Perhaps I wasn't clear about my point, so let me restate.  Comparing Palin to Romney or McCain is a disservice.  She has a chance to be a Reagan-like figure, but there was a lot more to Reagan than charm and a teleprompter.  If she puts in the time -- she is young -- she'll have the gravitas to match her charism.

Then watch out...

What are the chances that the Republican movers and shakers invite Gov. Palin to give the keynote speech at the convention?  The contrast between her and our chosen robot butler would be heartbreaking. Here is hoping they remain true to form.

I am a Palinista. Will she have a role in the Romney administration? She is not all things to all people, but she has so much to offer!
