Santorum Cancels Hillsdale Visit

Well, for a moment, we had a visit to Hillsdale by Rick Santorum scheduled for Monday, and there was reason to think that Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and even Ron Paul might join him. And now? He has abandoned us for another venue, and the whole thing has been called off. There is talk that something might be arranged for another time. I will believe it when I see it.

Most unfortunate, but it would be unwise to make more of this than the mere fact of the matter. This is a nation comprising upwards of 300 million citizens with equivalent civil organizations to match.
Mr. Santorum would indeed be well advised to make more time in his schedule to address the faculty of Hillsdale and the membership of Ricochet but we cannot know what he would have to forgo to do so.
At the moment one can only say, this is unfortunate. ·
I think it's interesting that he dropped Hillsdale after accepting; it'll be more interesting to see what the "better offer" was, but I don't think he can be condemned for lack of Ricochet availability. He leads the field by that metric.

In attempting to schedule the candidates to sit down for interviews on Uncommon Knowledge, we've had three near misses with Romney and two with Santorum. · 35 minutes ago
And what of Rep. Paul?
(Or Gov. Johnson?) · 6 hours ago
My sense is that Peter would be better at interviewing Johnson than Paul, but that a Gov. Johnson UK would be very good indeed. Set against that, a good Libertarian Party interview by a recognized and respected conservative could lose the Republicans votes in November, whereas Ron Paul interviews never hurt anyone. A Johnson interview in mid-November would be perfect. He probably won't be too busy.
Re: Santorum Cancels Hillsdale Visit
For the record, I don't blame Santorum for not coming -- however much I regret his decision. And I agree that Romney might do himself some good if he came and displayed some of the fire he showed in the Florida debate. I have no idea why Santorum canceled. I think I know why Romney is hesitant. He is running a timid campaign, more intent on avoiding mistakes than on gaining fervent support. If he is the nominee, as I still expect, he may pay a high price in the general election for this propensity.

Vetting delayed is vetting denied. Santorum is panicking as the MittStar fires up.Actually, I got to touch the shoulder of Sen. Santorum at CPAC. I like him much but he is SO not winning Michigan.

Duane Oyen: I'm guessing that his advisers told him to avoid religious schools this week, out of concern what the Q&A videos might produce.
On the other hand, it would be smart for Romney to go there. That would help defuse the religious suspicion for him. · 1 minute ago

While many Hillsdale students are religious, Hillsdale College is not religiously affiliated. · Feb. 19 at 6:00pm
They do not have to be religiously affiliated in any way. The perception of the school is tradition and God, even more so these days nationally than Calvin over in Grand Rapids.
