As Mitt Romney continues his multi-state tour to introduce Paul Ryan as his running mate, observers keep remarking that Romney is as enthusiastic about the pick as the crowds are. The result is that voters are finding him more engaging and charismatic.

Just now he drew huge cheers from the massive Wisconsin rally crowd by saying, after a brief interruption from would-be hecklers, "Mr. President, take your campaign out of the gutter – let’s talk about the real issues that America faces."

It's such an obvious statement to make but one that we haven't seen prior to now. Looks like Mitt has got some fight in him after all!

Observers say that Romney gave the best speech they've seen and that if this is the stump speech he's getting used to, the campaign is in great shape heading into the convention and final push.

I predict the gleeful comments of some liberal pundits will taste a lot different when they have to eat them in November.

I was all in with Romney, now I'm triple all in (that would be 300%).

I'm fired up about the Romney/Ryan ticket with Ryan's addition, too!  Suddenly Romney doesn't look icky at all.  He looks brilliant.

That scene in Wisconsin had Paul Ryan crying . Now who among us will admit the same ?It was magnificent and I cried at having missed that feeling as much as I responded to the favorite son thing .

I think the big difference we'll see between the McCain/Palin campaign and the Romney/Ryan campaign is the head of the ticket getting buoyed by his own pick versus how McCain seemed to be hiding a wince whenever he was seen in public with Palin.  I think that if McCain and his camp had been more supportive of Palin, he might have won or at least not lost by as much.

I'm glad so many other people are finally seeing the Mitt Romney I've been seeing for 9 months. I've always thought he was charismatic, engaging, and full of spitfire. Always thought the same about Ryan, too!

The pundits may be right when they say that Ryan is a politically risky choice for Romney, but this misses an important point.  Romney picked him because in Ryan, Romney sees someone like him--someone who is willing to do the hard work needed to change the disastrous course our country is following.   Most importantly, he is someone that Romney can respect.  I believe these were the main reasons Romney asked him to be his running mate--because in politics as in business, one wants colleagues one can trust and rely on.

As James of England knows, I've been pessimistic about Romney ever since January;  but this decision has done a lot to change my opinion of him.

"Full of spitfire" is good.  Being able to fly a Spitfire would be even better!

What we are seeing is a synergy developing between R&R that is based on mutual respect, genuine friendship and competence. These are men who have actually accomplished important things which makes a huge difference in the sincerity of their stump speeches when talking about each other. So far this combination is absolute dynamite and it's only going to get better. These guys are going to sweep the country like a wildfire!

I noticed this too. I hope it's not my imagination, but I believe Romney's rising to the occasion.

Romney/Ryan: Youth, vigor, positive energy. Ready to attack the problem.

Axelrod on the Sunday Shows: Dour, going negative, on the defensive. Worse for the wear.

That's a comparison that plays in our favor.

I call him Mittens too! I'm rather paranoid that some day I'll actually get to meet him. "Honored to meet you Mittens!... Errr I mean, President..."

Sir, you have no legitimacy in this job at all, and I can say with confidence that I can speak on behalf of the majority of the American people in saying: we do not know you, we do not want you, and the sooner you are put out to grass, the better.

Yeah, I've always suspected those folks who have rescued businesses and the Olympic games from bankruptcy and who are personally worth $250 million to be wimps.

Devil's Advocate: Are we sure its that Mitt has gotten better (though I think he's been improving steadily since the campaign began, so it would make sense), and not that the crowd was seeing him in a new light and responding more enthusiastically?

I am delighted with the R&R ticket.  This supports the contention that Mitt is a closet conservative, who has been forced to hide his true colors as he's lived in the bluest of states.  He's internalizing that the majority of the US is not like eastern Mass.  Also, given his long record as a serious data-wonk who is unafraid to look at hard numbers, I suspect the Ryan pick is not as "risky" as some pundits may wish.

I was over slumming on the Slate website and was gratified to see worried comments concerning the election. This thing is turning around.

What is the difference? People's Mitt apprehensions which are always on high display throughout our fine community here, would have held him back regardless of his quality as a campaigner or policy maker. People my pride themselves about knowing the issues and deciding upon them, but some people just sit wrong with us for strange and not always easily describable reasons. Doing something to remove those fears helps a lot in getting people to evaluate you favorably even without changing your message.
