Re: Russian Dressing
I hope when Romney debates Obama Monday, and Obama parades out his having "ended the wars" as some badge of honor that Romney says something like: "I don't think there is any virtue in a slow surrender," which is essentially what Obama accomplished. Under his administration the US will have left two war arenas without having secured a lasting victory. If you are going to give up you might as well do it quickly and save the expense instead of this ineffective winding down that costs more lives and treasure. Of course, the best thing would have been to actually "win" the war, as Jay suggested.

Re: Russian Dressing
Whenever Romney is given his turn to speak, he needs to punch out his main point with total clarity in the first 15 seconds, then do nuance and fact download until he's interrupted or the moderator cuts him off. He would have nailed PBO to the wall a couple times if Creepy Crowley hadn't cut him off, and I expect Bob Shyster to be no less in the tank than her.

Re: Russian Dressing
This podcast is rapidly becoming one of my favourites, which is somewhat of a surprise to me since I hadn't numbered either of the participants among my top ten print columnists. The chemistry between them makes this something special, and Mr Nordlinger's uncompromising defence of individual liberty in the face of tyrannical regimes and Ms Charen's focus on the primacy of culture are refreshing to this flaming libertarian.

Re: Russian Dressing
Loved a lot of the suggestions for what Romney can do in this last debate.
If Romney doesn't bring up Obama's "flexibility" quote on Monday night, I will tear my hair out. Really, like so much in Obama's agenda, that quote alone should send a chill of fear down the spine of every American.
Any chance that TPTB at Ricochet have a connection with Rob Portman? Can they perhaps slip him this podcast to help with debate prep? :)
One last point -- and I know we're all sick to death of analyzing the second debate -- I have not heard anyone make this point: Besides her egregious lifeline to Obama on Benghazi, her cutting off Romney more often, and her letting Obama speak for over four (FOUR!) minutes more than Romney, I noticed even more evidence of her bias.
Time was wasted on non-issues such as the mythical 72% pay for women, outsourcing, and gun control.
Meanwhile the important, relevant issues of our debt, entitlement reform, and Obamacare were nowhere to be found in the questions. These are HUGE! And Candy left them out. Why? They are not helpful to Obama.

Re: Russian Dressing
Does it make me a bad person that I consider the ending music to be very stirring, and think it might even make a good intro for the main podcast?
Is it worse that I really like the Hymn of the Soviet Union and thing the best music from Hunt for Red October was all in Russian?
Why do the Revolutionaries get all the good music?

Re: Russian Dressing
Romney should bring up the fact that in order to be a successful world power, you must have your domestic house in order -- something which both Charen and Nordlinger don't seem to recognize. That plays into the state of the economy.
And on the question of how Romney is different from Bush, Romney should pointed out the myriad of ways Bush and Obama are alike. Both took premature victory laps and neglected their duties. Bush with the nonsense of combat being over and Obama with bin Laden is dead so the terrorists are defeated. Both have left the US in a highly weakened position. Both have continued with open borders. And on and on. Bush and Obama are very much alike, not least of all by being failed Presidents.

Re: Russian Dressing
I have no real comment here, except to promote and support this podcast. I love listening to them.
And after the election, maybe we can get some more music commentary from Jay. (OK, I'm being selfish here, but so what?)

Re: Russian Dressing
Mona's point on the wavers on the Iranian sanctions is a good one, Romney should use that in the debate when Iran comes up.

Re: Russian Dressing
Outstanding point on Brian Lamb. C-SPAN is basically the only TV news station that I bother tuning into anymore.

Re: Russian Dressing
What is the Russian music played at the end of Russian Dressing? Probably Jay's selection though it could be Mona's too; two highly cultured commentators.

Re: Russian Dressing
BTW, if Obama gets on his high horse again Romney should remind him that he is president of a constitutional republic and thus subject to being challenged.
Re: Russian Dressing
It is Song of The Volga Boat Men, hand picked by Jay himself.

Re: Russian Dressing
This podcast is a soothing, despite the discussion about tense subjects like what was Obama promising to the Russians when he said he will be more flexible after the elections.
i had just listened to Le Show podcast with Harry Shearer cutting up the conservatives, playing Joe The Plumber's advertisement. Harry made the dig that of course, all of the right were as coarse, uneducated, and you get the drift.
ThEn I listened to Mona and Jay dismantle the big issues in an even handed and gently logical manner. Thank you for your insights into foreign affairs.
