Romney's Comeback
In response to a question about the vice presidential search from NBC's Brian Williams, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney showed he is more than capable of speaking for himself, so that is what I will let him do here. See the excerpt from today's interview below.
BRIAN WILLIAMS: I know how much you love quoting unnamed Romney advisors, so here's a Republican official familiar with your campaign selection process, told the folks at Politico, you are looking for a quote, "Incredibly boring white guy for your vice presidential nominee." Can you confirm or deny?
MITT ROMNEY: You told me you were not available. But you're not-- (LAUGH) I-- I can't give you anything on that front whatsoever.

Re: Romney's Comeback
Considering so much of the season is made up of "silly" comments from journalists in the pool which is this election, I am glad to see Romney grab Mr. Williams by the collar as Mitt is once again thrown in...Good show Governor!

Re: Romney's Comeback
I've been a Romney backer since forever. Whom would you rather have as a candidate - an icon that slowly dissolves in front of your eyes, or someone viewed as a cyborg who proves to have a sense of humor, and who steadily shows his human side as the campaign progresses? His unimpeachable personal life is also an asset, given that we know the Obama team would dig up any errant action or words from the past thirty years and amplify them tenfold in a horrendous smear campaign

Re: Romney's Comeback
That was a nice self deprecating reversal. I'm impressed.

Re: Romney's Comeback
I'm not sure that was self-deprecating, Pseudo. It was more of a "STFU, Brian Williams, you suck."
Re: Romney's Comeback
Great to see a witty and disarming line delivered without hesitation.

Re: Romney's Comeback
Unlike during the debates when he would charge at any target with earnestness (Now, wait just a minute Newt, I never said anything about boring white guys, the ticket should be open to all Americans (zzzzzz....)) Romney shows some deftness, ignores the jab thrown right at him and goes straight for Brian Williams obscenely overcompensated chin and scores a knockdown.

Re: Romney's Comeback
I've felt for a while that Romney is a frontrunner, in the foot-racing sense: he does better when he feels in command. I suspect that he tends to feel like an outsider. As a Mormon, he's outside the religious establishment; as the governor of a blue state, he's outside the conservative establishment; and as a a venture capitalist, he made his money in an industry that many people rank with snake oil.
He's bad at jockeying for position. Every time his poll numbers dip--every time he feels that he has to compete for the affection of those who should like him--he starts looking over his shoulder, wondering. And he stumbles a bit.
But when he feels a bit of space between himself and his competitors, a bit of freedom to breathe, more of a sense that "Yes, I'm the one meant to win this event"--well, then all of his energy flows to his legs. His best instincts take over.
I predict that as his poll numbers improve, he's going to campaign even better. He'll end with a punishing final kick, a convincing victory and the hearts of the crowd.
