So much for sleeping in...well, wasn't going to sleep in anyway but I may have chewed off all my fingernails by the time Mitt announces.

Well, I daresay if it isn't Ryan a lot of conservatives will be disappointed...unless it's Rubio, of course.

Can Ryan still hold his seat in the house if Romney fails?  We need him desperately in the national government. The R's have so many attractive candidates for national office in four plus years, but can the country wait that long?

I don't think so, which makes me wonder why the attractive candidates stayed out this time (Yes, that's you Mitch Daniels).

Failure is not an option.

I also heard that Huntsman was not going to the RNC convention, and even some rumors that he'd go to the DNC convention. Maybe No Labels should hold a convention of their own. It would be a rhetorical feat to have speakers for four nights taking no stand on anything.

So now that AP is reporting this as fact, I actually felt a momentary sadness for Joe Biden. Poor guy is going to have to debate Paul Ryan.

True. And it doesn't help that FoxNews is endlessly looping file footage of Ryan ginning up the expectation. If it is Bob McDonnell, it's still a good choice since Virginia is a hotly contested swing state and McDonnell has executive experience and a great record as governor...and Mitt could soften the blow by naming Ryan as prospective Secretary of the Treasury...at some point. · 2 minutes ago

I still like Bobby Jindal best, and he would also have an electrifying effect on conservatives and tea partiers. I have been scared for the past few days that this increasingly frenzied Ryan speculation ( which is based on no hard information at all), would force Romney into picking him. I think Ryan is a terrible pick that will mean electoral death in November.

My opinion: too much anti-foreign bias still exists in the GOP for Jindal to be liked.  He'd be a good choice.  But, for myself, I'm eager to watch the results of Ryan's attacks on spending; it's a long overdue adult conversation on spending that so desperately needs to happen and let the chips fall where they have may.

Katie O: You're right TruewesT. Ryan would be an "all in" pick.

Oh, how I hope it happens!

The fight is now or never. · 33 minutes ago

Yep!  All-in.  With what Ryan will likely say, if Romney does win, we'll have the mandate and political capital to cut cut cut.  And if Romney does lose, well the fiscal crisis that's coming will occur during Obama's presidency.

How am I going to sleep tonight?  So excited!  I hope it is Ryan, although I would also be thrilled with Jindal.

By the way, Brian, perfect image to go with this post.  It made me laugh out loud since it fits the mood so perfectly.  Let's bring it out again for each of the debates, as well as Election night. :)

I'll enjoy it but I don't have confidence in the rest of the electorate nor do I have confidence in the Romney campaign's ability to avoid being portrayed as mean. Isn't Ryan that guy who pushed granny's wheel chair off the cliff?

And a question. If Romney/Ryan loses in November, will Ryan (and his plan) be weakened in Congress? After all, this pick will make the election a referendum on Ryan's Plan.

Seems to me the Conservative movement is "all in" with this pick. If Ryan and his plan go down, where do we go from here? We gotta win this one, folks. It's time for Romney to run a smarter campaign.

There's no way Obama would sign the Ryan budget, and zero chance the GOP wins enough seats to override his veto.  If Romney loses, the Ryan plan is dead in the water until 2016 whether or not Ryan is on the ticket.

Granted. But it would be seen as a rejection by the voters. I don't know how you come back from that. Ever.

Here's what I don't get about the Huntsman thing. If he felt so strongly about the direction of the country under Obama that he was willing to run against and presumably replace the president, what on earth is going to be his rationale for supporting the ticket now? Especially since the GOP nominee is the second most Liberal guy in the primary field.

Huntsman really is contemptible.
