The big news of the weekend -- because apparently there isn't much else going on -- is that Robert Gibbs is being considered as Tim Kaine's replacement for chairman of the DNC. Politico reports:

Democratic insiders are taking the temperature of some top party donors about the possibility of naming White House press secretary Robert Gibbs as chairman of the Democratic National Committee heading into President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012, senior officials tell POLITICO.

Under the scenario being tested, Tim Kaine, the current DNC chairman and former governor of Virginia, would be named to a top administration post, perhaps in the Cabinet, the officials said.

Donors’ response has been positive, according to people who have been consulted.

Ed Morrissey's take:

Robert Gibbs? Really? What, exactly, are his qualifications to run the DNC? Oh, right, we’re in the post-qualifications, post-experience era in politics....I won’t say I’ll be unhappy to see that, but I’d be surprised if it really comes to pass.

Gosh, I certainly hope so. He'll be wonderfully vague, unfocused, mendacious, and ineffective.

Incidentally, former Gov. Kaine is becoming a legend here in Virginia. Under his watch, managers at the VA Dept. of Transportation hoarded $1.5 billion in funds. Quite a delightful gift for our new governor who called for the audit.

I hope not. Gibbs is one of those who shows absolutely no respect to his opponents. It would be nice if Democrats and Republicans could actually debate, rather than just talk over each other and demonize.

There's a reason his nickname is Baghdad Bob. I'd love to hear the personal opinions of the reporters at his press meetings. The gloves are off and he is being hit with harder questions. Not hard enough, but it's a beginning.

Like Aaron says, he has no respect for his opponent. I want to describe him but only expletives come to mind. Lets just say he's a smarmy -- dang, I just can't say anything fit for mixed company.

I'm torn. Would I rather have this bozo delivering the President's message or the Democratic Party's message? I just hope he finds a home where it can do the left the most damage.
