Or so I'd like to think...

The fact of the matter is this: I interviewed one of my heroes this past week and I want to share that conversation with you.

As far as The R.J. Moeller Show podacst is concerned, this is as good as it gets.  If Rob Long is in your rear-view mirror, you're better off pulling a U-turn and heading back.  You ain't finding much else better out there, my friends.

Especially here at Ricochet, what can be said about Rob Long that hasn't been already said.  The guy has done (and is doing) it all.  Plus, check out this photo of the man.  I don't know about you, but I'd be in on whatever prank he's got brewing inside his head with a mischievous smile like that!

For the (maybe) one person who doesn't already know, Rob Long is a writer, producer, podcaster, and dog owner extraordinaire.  He has written a regular column for National Review for more than a decade.  He was one of the producers of the show Cheers (and the slightly less famous George & Leo).  He is employed by National Public Radio.  And now, as all of you already know, he (along with Peter and James) host the best political podcast on the interweb.

When I began a humble podcast of my own earlier this year, I said to myself, "Self: you'll know you're on the right track with this thing if and when you book Rob Long for an interview."

Well, Self...we've done it!

The R.J. Moeller Show is proud to present, for your listening pleasure. a candid conversation with one of the most interesting (and funniest) conservatives on the planet.

I'm just taking a momentary break from listening to your podcast with Rob.  I'm about a half hour into the show and simply want to say many thanks for this.  I am learning much about Ricochet and future planning, and the movement among conservatives to bring actual thoughtful change, not only here in America, but even aiming towards trying to get Europeans engaged in what I would call traditional Western thought.

R.J., please provide a link for your podcast that will work with other podcast programs. It would be nice for you to do this on your website, too. iTunes is not the only game in town.

Glad you enjoyed the podcast and I completely agree about the need Rob touched upon to reach out to our European intellectual brethren.

I hope more people listen to the interview, and I'd appreciate any word-of-mouth pub you can help me out with.  God bless, sir!

Happy to help!  If you haven't heard it already, check out our interview with Adam Carolla from a few weeks back.

I enjoyed this podcast quite a bit, and like Raycon, I particularly enjoyed hearing Rob's vision of the future of Ricochet. I almost stood and put my hand over my heart. Inspiring.

R.J., Great interview! Really. Rob is the greatest guy. I've been reading him for years in National Review. My wife and I laugh out loud when I read his article to her every two weeks.

It's so nice to see him connected with Peter Robinson, whom I also deeply admire. What a duo!

Regarding the podcast - I don't know how Apple takes your content but what I need is the link to the .xml file (also referred to as an RSS file) that my Zune software can use as a link to get and update your podcast for my Zune so I can take it with me in my car.

If you use Apple to do all the podcast stuff then I bet they make it impossible to get the link to this file or they use some other way of connecting. Typical takeover by Apple. (Since you have a website you can store your content there and use a feed program -- feedforall, for example -- which I use for my church's podcasts. Just a thought.)

I'm glad to hear your connection with Dennis Prager. As you know I'm a big fan. God Bless.

Nicely done. I could listen to more, if there were a handy link to follow.

No problem!  I have a guy who does most of the technological side so let me run it by him.

Btw, if you haven't heard it already, check out Prager's interview with Arthur Brooks from yesterday.  Hour 3, I believe.

RJ, you got a good thing going over there, thanks for sharing.   I just added your most recent to my podcast queue.

Since, you mentioned Rob's appearance I wanted ask if others think he looks like a full-grown Theodore "The Beaver" Cleaver? Of course, Jerry Mathers is out there and reminds me that the two are not alike but based on the Beave's childhood likeness I think he should look like Rob as an adult.

Appreciate it, GML. We're young and hungry to make this podcast work, and it is SO MUCH fun to produce.

I concur in your Matthers-Long observation.  There's an Arrested Development episode where the daughter of the family (Lindsay Fuenke) has a failed business venture that showed parents what their kids would look like as an adult. Sounds like we could have used "Mommy, What Will I Look Like?" in this situation.

Nice job, RJ.

You're not thirty yet, and you're doing podcasts with Rob Long and Dennis Prager? That has to be exciting.

I'm very envious ... keep up the fun.

Very kind of you to listen and comment.  God's blessed me with some cool opportunities thus far, and I just hope to be a trust-worthy voice in the public square who can politely and forcefully articulate the Judeo-Christian, free-market values I believe in.  Ricochet has been kind to let me post my podcast here, and I appreciate that more than they know.

Take care and please do stay in touch.

I too was excited to hear what Rob had to say.  Ricochet truly is a breath of fresh air and can have a tremendous impact on the Center-Right discussion going forward.

Excellent show, R.J.

About half way through Rob was talking about getting others to read the Member Feed as opposed to academics at other sites, mentioning government employees should too.

Well, I say if any government agency signs up to read Ricochet's Member Feed, then remind them the Membership is 3.58 million dollars a month. They could afford it, and probably wouldn't doubt it.

I have to ask what is this Center-Right business?  I know Rob used to use it regularly until Pat Sajak mocked him for it and he has gradually gotten away from it.  As I understand it the Right, meaning conservatives, believe the Constitution is an important founding document.  The Left believes the Constitution is a dusty, old document that just gets in the way of most of their good ideas.  Who then is the Center?  People who can't make up their mind between those two positions.  Or is it that because Conservatives are the single largest group regardless of party affiliation that they constitute the Center and the Right is everyone else on the right, like Libertarians.

Give Me Liberty: I have to ask what is this Center-Right business?

Excellent points you raise here.  I've thought those same things many times myself. The way I look at it is this: there are many people out there who don't like to be labeled.  We could try to psycho-analyze why that is, but especially among generally like-minded compatriots, I'd rather focus on where we agree.  If someone wants to use the term "Center-Right", I have no problem with it.  I am an evangelical, free-market conservative and proud of those labels.  Why? Because I know what they mean, I can articulate to all who ask what they mean, and I firmly believe they are the correct conclusions in both the theological and socio-economic/political realm.

But if a friend who largely agrees with my convictions feels more comfortable being slightly more vague about their views, for whatever reason, I don't really mind. I care what someone believes and what they teach to their kids. Labels are important, don't get me wrong, but not important enough to alienate someone who is on my "side."

Just my thoughts. Thanks!
